This is just making my blood boil. This isn't wild accusations, or some meme or joke. This isn't just 'religion bashing'.
This is a study of Catholic priests based on ACTUAL CONVICTION RATES for child sex abuse. The Melbourne study found that 1 in 20 of the priests for Catholicism were convicted child sex offenders. This figure correlated with a similar study done in the USA (the american sample-size was over 100,000 priests, so it's not just a random sample, it's a very telling sample).
This is just fucked up, the study also indicates the LIKELY number of priests is probably closer to 1 in 15, 1 in 20 is just the MINIMUM PROVEN statistic.
Then you figure with numbers that high - the rest are basically co-conspirators (covering it up).
It basically means the catholic church (priesthood at least) is essentially just a paedophile ring. A fucking massive child-sex ring. Sex fucks.
Also - anyone who is exposing their children to the catholic priesthood is literally running a 1/20 (minimum) risk of having their children in the 'care' of a child sex abuser.
Anyway - please share this to your facebook/twitter/etc. I know "priests abuse children" is nothing new, a bit of a joke, etc. However - this is no fucking joke, this is sick s**t. And this is a PROVEN conviction rate for child sex offences.
I've heard something similar for Europe as well...
It makes you wonder if these priests are just cynical bastards, using the church for their depraved needs, or that they do believe in what they preach, but somehow feel their sins will be absolved (which makes it even worse)?
With these statistics, there is an argument to be made, that leaving your child in the care of the church, in itself constitutes abuse...
I wonder what the statistics for daycare centers or schools are?

Yeah, 1 in 20 is just the conviction rate. I guess the vow of celibacy doesn't include small boys, what a loop hole. Makes me glad I'm an atheist.
I have a son who's turning 5 in feb, and if anyone EVER did anything like that to him, there'd be no trial...no police...just me, a bunch of garbage bags, an ax and a shovel in the middle of nowhere. There's absolutely no excuse for something so sick in my eyes. I think that child molestation is the absolute WORST crime anyone can commit, and there's no excuse for it.
I don't buy that whole "oh, they were molested so that's why they did it". That's total b******t, there's counselling, and other help available. If you refuse to take the help, then you're 100% accountable for your actions, and I think the parents of the victim should have FULL rights to decide what to do with the perpetrator. I totally LOVED what Chris hansen was doing with "to catch a predator" and how badly those fuckers squirmed, knowing their lives were over. Serves them right.

aye,it's really terrible what a lot of priests are allowed to do to kids,i've read that the vatican covered up for hundreds of them even sending the priests to new parishes to get them away from any legal trouble they would be in if caught. it's actually sickening to think about what they do to kids and then go out and sit in judgement over people who may have "sinned" according to them, what hypocrisy !!! i'm not a catholic and i'm bloody glad i'm not.

Another thing is, if they not paedophiles, they're gay. I've got nothing against gays. But it's hypocritical, and what is the logic in being a priest if you're gay. It's like: "Yeah I'm gay, so I'll join the war against gays."

That's very true, likewise I've nothing against anyone being gay. I think the reason the priesthood attracts pedos and gays is because it's these people filled with guilt (christian gays) and they figure a life of abstinence will work for them. So they become priests specifically because they are gay or pedophiles. I feel awful comparing the two, however the reality is a lot of religious gays are deeply tormented by it.

I didn't edit it, it as spell-checked, it just depends where I am - at home my browser spell-check corrects to Australian spelling (which is mostly the British spelling) and at work most of the browsers correct to American English.

This is one subject that get's me very upset! To think there are people in this world that would molest a helpless individual is sickening. Then, to use a religion to cover up one's pathetic desires to prey on a child. It's been going on so long it has poisoned the system. I mean, are these just victims continuing what they were exposed to so it's a trending that has and is generations of abuse. Wonder how this will ever be resolved?

I think most people will find this subject very upsetting. I've been reading about the Jimmy Savile case and I'm appalled that there were probably people in the BBC and the UK government who knew about his disgusting activities or at least had a good idea about them, yet he was in a position of trust, was allowed to visit children's hospitals and presented kids TV. He was very crafty about it as he openly joked about being a perv and wasn't taken seriously but clearly when you are in a position of power some people will turn a blind eye to anything, which is sickening.
To be honest though I do feel a little sorry for peadophiles. I assume no one would choose to be attracted to children. But I'm torn as to whether they are mentally ill or just plain evil. I think any pedo who goes into the church can't be doing it out of guilt, they know all too well that priesthood is easy access to the cookie jar (excuse that disgusting image). The only way to resolve the issue is to change the law to take away that power, remove the opportunities for priests. But even if it were possible to control the church, it wouldn't get rid of peadophilia in the minds of some people. I think there needs to be research from a medical/science point of view so the causes can be identified. Clearly the criminal system is not enough.

oh definitely. Be a s**t affliction to have - I doubt they're 'evil'. Simply born attracted to children, the same way some are attracted to the same sex or the opposite of sex. In some cases it's the people who cover it up (both in the Church and the BBC in teh Savile case) that are worse; they've no excuse.

ENGLISH ....Scottish, Irish and Welsh people have their own languages (which don't get used, and are mostly jibberish, but they are still proud of.) Scottish Gaelic, Gaelic, and Welsh. It's English.

I was trying to spell it correctly but I made a mistake. My browser spellcheck is American spelling too so I'd have probably gotten away with it if I just wrote it without the A. But I usually write in British spelling, which means words like colour, endeavour, theatre, criticise and realisation may look a bit odd to Americans. Although british spelling can use 'ize' and 'ise' and US spelling accepts centre and theatre.
btw it is british english in this context (or English (UK) in most software) since we welsh use that form of english. The Americans don't speak american, they speak american english so your argument for english spelling or english english is nonsense.
The Welsh do have their own language and it's spoken frequently in some parts of Wales as the first language. There is also a tv channel, which broadcasts exclusively in Welsh and all signs, documents and government forms have to be in both Welsh and (british) English so to say it isn't used is also nonsense. Scottish Gaelic on the other hand is very rare and doesn't have an official language status in the UK, whilst I believe Irish is taught commonly in schools in Ireland but is also not an official UK language. I might not be 100% correct but that's my take on UK languages.
