Dirt talk in turneys  0
So, I've seen quite a few people attacking me and others on accoun of our play considering turneys. I'm wondering, can there be a strategy to dirt talking players, can it actually get them to tilt? I mean, personally, I just don't give a dime about what they say, but still, after about 30k hands, I'm lousy to talk about dirt talk on turneys Smile

So I seek advice.

Was happening to me today. I let it go on for about 15 mins than replied with; "Mate, I work in a prison, nothing you can say can tilt me, but thanks for trying I really appreciate the effort you've put in."

Rest of the table laughed and he kept quiet from there on in.

Cute idea. I realise now that the question I forgot to put in is, what is the extent you can/should call a mod in? I mean, I've had people calling germans "F*ck you hittler bet!" (sorry for the bad language, but it's a recollection, thus should be stated in "full" Tongue)

I honestly don't believe anyone gets tilted by someone criticizing their play. I've seen some awful players who get slated by the players they beat but they don't change, sometimes they argue back as if they are the good players. I've also seen some pretty bad players slating players for apparently making an awful call when they were actually justified. In any case it's all daft as donks never listen and why would you want to teach them, and criticising them is unlikely to make them play worse either.

Maybe some insults and put downs would get to people if they struck a chord but if you have to piss people off to win you can't be very good. It might even back fire by making it harder to second guess your opponent. It gets even more complicated when people start acting like they are on tilt.

Some players just like to say things in an attempt to bother you and in most cases they'll keep saying things if you reply. I just ignore most chat unless someone actually wants to ask a logical question.
There's been times when someone will start running their yapper just for the sake of trying to pick an argument with anyone they can. These type are actually hoping to tilt someone or get them pizzed enough to make foolish calls against the mouth, then fallout. Ignoring them is the best medicine!

Ignoring them is indead the best way to handle.

I must admit it s a nice reply of zerostar, one to remember....

If you wanne reply thats just the way of making them look like an idiot.....

If I use the chat I keep it polite and sometimes yuo get usefull converstations or funny replies...

look at tony g- he is a perfect example of sh1t talks at the table- some say this strategy works, som say it doesn't. i personally think it might be effective in a situation where your opponent is in a 50/50 situation: has some odds to call, but it would be a really low value call- in such situation talking trash might help "to convince him" that he is making a good decision in calling Big Smile still i doubt anyone will be calling with 26o on a board of AQ9- & it doesn't matter how much sh1t you will pile on him

what i love about Tony G that he can entertain on the poker table, no doubt about it.However sometimes hes way too rude in my opinion. In the end he can actually wake up "the sleeping dragon" in some people i believe. Simply because the one who is sick of him will get some type of revenge. so he starts to be Loose calling more often etc. I mean these poker pros are living from poker but they are still humans after all. And sometimes its challenging to stay calm

Loads of people try this and get lots of people on table involved in my experience and its then great watching people tilt all over the place trying to get the bad mouther out....but not succeeding. The best tip? Turn chat off!

If you avoid reading the chat, you won’t suffer any pressure that may exist there. Not knowing, not caring about it. If you read, you should contribute, in other to release some pressure you may be gaining for reading it. Some people can’t avoid reading the chat, so the better they have to do is to contribute, but keep focused on the table, after all, that’s what makes you being there. Things like “gonna win this 1” or “27?” may disarm some fish, but not the better players, they don’t get influenced by that.

The best thing to do is to disable the chat of the bully and concentrate on the game. Why loose precious time writing to a low person?I usually play more tables and do not care much about the chatters.
Good luck

i find when people start stressing at me then they are the ones who are tilting, if my play is annoying people then i will use that to my advantage.

You should ignore them or dezactivate chat... don't waste your time with them... they distract you from the game... next time don't chat with them... they're &&&&& you understant that & ... GL on the next tournament Big Smile

what I have learned over th years playing online poker is that the best thing you can do is turn off chat completely. on stars i click the info button and ignor all chat! i also have chat balloons turned off too.
I have become much more successful online this way.
