I barely chase draws to the river so definitely a foe for me. Amazing how many people hit the river if you let them get there, especially on pokerstars.

I only ever play to the river if i have a solid read and a solid hand. Otherwise I try to take it down on the flop/turn. Id have to say a foe in general!

Couldn't agree more. Have missed out so often in last couple of days to people successfully hitting their gut shot straights on the river despite me raising and re-raising with best hands (up to the turn they were at least!) Or even worse their under pair hitting a 4 card flush!!
1 player got me on the river 4 hands in a row today!! Ahead and betting 70%+ pot every time, he just didn't care and really couldn't miss. He knocked other people out as well so wasn't just me he was lucky against. Told him go get lotto ticket as he's sure to win lol
Unfortunately there are plenty of players who will just call all day no matter how you are betting to try and hit their miracle.

Many time the river is friend just to the villain lol
I think that on a strong hand that you already make on flop or turn most of your stack is already in play so the river it's not so important anymore to keep loses low if it's against too.
In the end i think the river is the best friend of variance

Well given he had aces you could call that justice, I'm sure if you were holding AA you'd say that too. Try your best not to blame pokerstars, this is just poker in general.
I do feel for you dude, its a nasty hand. But learning how to deal with these situations and carry on is what pokers all about!
Either way, good luck grinding to that goldstar my friend!

yeah but the thing is i pretty much knew he had aces. He is a very solid player (he's supernova,6stars) and doesn't get into pots like that if he doesn't have a strong hand. that's why i called preflop not re-raise. So i was basically set mining and i hit and played it well just to get fooked over. I wouldn't be moaning about it if it was all in preflop and this is just one hand of many very similar and even worse.

heart on the river just cost me $30 he had nothing apart from chasing that heart.
should you be ultra aggressive on the flop of 2 suits and one other when you hold top pairs, top two pairs ec, so its expensive for them to chase rather than just calling your 3/4 bet?

3/4 on the flop and 3/4 on the turn (if he hasn't hit) is usually enough at say nl25 but lower levels you should be almost pot betting on wet boards I f your still getting called then they are making massive mistakes and will cost them in the long run. And in poker you are aiming to make less mistakes than your opponents. But yeah always bet big to make them pay to hit their draw. Good luck

WOW what a proposition. It comes down to poker etiquette versus a total disregard to that etiquette, which some would call playing the board or bluffing. unless you have a monster and someone is matching your calls or raises it is ok to fold to protect your tourney life.

I think on Jokerstars river is the worst foe in the world... because the river stars change the winner almost all the time... if i think few moments how many times river helped me i can say maximum 10 times
The River is deffo a Foe of mine. The amount of times someone hits lucky against me on the river is so annoying. Funny how they rarely hit on the Turn, its nearly always the River. It makes me so angry sometimes, but that's Holdem for you. There's 5 cards for a reason. The 5th card changes everything.

Personally i really hate the river. I have lost the most hands from it, while i had the nuts in turn. But then again i play mostly Omaha so maybe that the reason for it.
