i never understand why people think its stange not to have a cell phone about, i do have one but never use it or credit it or take it with me, peolpe did just fine in the days before mobiles and i respect people who can still live without that sort of reliance, i do all my own maths and dont ever use a calculator, cam remember important phone numbers still. when people say i they dont understand how i can get around without a mobile i wonder how they coudnt survive without one.

I agree you don't NEED it to survive, but nor do you NEED a car or bus to go to work. You guys go to work by foot?
But regarding a cell phone, do you realize that it can actually save your life?? Imagine you have a accident or get lost in the middle of nowwhere and you can call someone if you have a cellphone? There are a lot of situations you can think of in which a cell phone is more than handy. And the fact is, these things cost almost nothing.
If one would use an argument saying that it causes brain cancer and therefore don't want to use it, that is a very good argument, but not being convinced that it is usefull or even important? That's not using your brain at all.
But anyway, everyone is free to use or not use a cellphone.

Now you have a valid point there.... I've never been in a precarious life threatening situation before,....but I DID run out of gas about a mile from home in my car one day. I guess having a cell would have saved me a LONG walk in the middle of winter.....
...takingdrugs is right too though....always got along fine without one before they came along... If I wanna phone up all my little 13 year old bubble gum chewing girlfriends and talk about Justin Bieber,....guess I'll just have to miss out...

There’s a very funny viral advertising here in Portugal from a big cell company which is about Salvador, presented as the only Portuguese without a cell phone. After reading this thread, you made me remind about him. And his face is everywhere on the streets: “All unlimited, what about now Salvador?”. you’ve got to go search for that on the net, everyone tries to convince him, but he just won’t give up keeping without a cell phone!
