This video illustrates what a friend of mine in the hotel industry tipped me off to a while ago. When travelling I normally bring a few extra disposable cups just in case I run out.

Posted by bowie1984: Its a very interesting video 4 sure. Oh my, all those germs, its sure funny going around in these rooms with an UV lighting rod.
Also I never understand people who nicked stuff off in hotelrooms from towels to bathrobes and so on. Why would I want to use something at my home that belonged a thousand people before me? Just because it has a 3x3 cm logo on it wont became suddenly some cool stuff that everybody should wear.
Same goes with pillows, blankets and earbuds stolen from airplanes. I just dont see a reason.
no its not just to steal something thats worth a few bucks
i remember when i was younger my mom would always steal a soap or something (new one, not opened lol) just to never actually use it at home (not saying we never used soap, before u quote it out of context! -.-).
i think its more likely to keep it as a souvenir from that trip, and its usually something small for most people. i dont do it though, but thats mostly because i rarely go to any hotels. lol
