Alvarez's HR lands in boat on Allegheny River Cubs rookie resides in downtown Chicago during season By Adam Berry / MLB.com
PITTSBURGH -- Pirates first baseman Pedro Alvarez has hit a lot of home runs in his life -- 111 of them in the Majors, 46 in the Minors, 49 at Vanderbilt University and countless others before then. But Tuesday night was a first for Alvarez and a rare occurrence at PNC Park. Alvarez launched a home run all the way out of the ballpark during the Pirates' 8-5 loss to the Twins, ripping a solo shot that landed in a boat moored in the Allegheny River.

Ellsbury headed to DL with right knee sprain Yankees expected to call up outfielder Heathcott from Triple-A to take roster spot By Bryan Hoch / MLB.com
WASHINGTON -- Jacoby Ellsbury has been a catalyst atop the Yankees' lineup all season, but they will continue without his services for at least two weeks after the outfielder sustained a right knee sprain in Tuesday's 8-6, 10-inning loss to the Nationals. Ellsbury left the game in the fourth inning after tweaking the knee swinging at a changeup from the Nats' Gio Gonzalez. Ellsbury worked a walk but appeared to favor the knee while running the bases, and he did not return to play defense in the bottom half of the inning.
3 singles today Houston Astros go for the series win at home against the Oakland Athletics. Detroit at home avoids the sweep against the Milwaukee Brewers. Toronto Blue Jays win a close game at home against the L.A. Angels GL.

D-backs run wild, including steal of home Arizona racks up six stolen bases -- three by Pollock, who scores on botched rundown By Christina De Nicola / Special to MLB.com
MIAMI -- A.J. Pollock stole a career-high three bases in Wednesday's 6-1 win over the Marlins, highlighted by a swipe of home. It was part of a banner night for D-backs baserunners, who collected six steals to fall one shy of the franchise record. "If it's there, we'll take it," said Pollock, who has nine steals this season. "It's even more when we're not forcing the issue. Couple guys can get out there. We really could be forcing something that's not there. We do a good job; if they give us something, we'll take it. If not, then we'll hold off."

deGrom retires 23 in a row, leads Mets past Cards By Anthony DiComo and Jenifer Langosch / MLB.com
NEW YORK -- Jacob deGrom's early-season rough patch has officially come to an end. deGrom's eight shutout innings led the Mets to a 5-0 win over the Cardinals at Citi Field on Thursday afternoon, giving the clubs a four-game series split and boosting the Mets to their fourth win in six games. Though St. Louis starter Jaime Garcia was also sharp in his first outing in 11 months, deGrom was better, striking out 11 Cardinals and holding them to one hit.

Ichiro moves past Babe on all-time hits list By Glenn Sattell / Special to MLB.com
MIAMI -- Ichiro Suzuki passed Babe Ruth on the all-time hits list in his first at-bat, going the other way on a 3-2 pitch to lead off the second inning with a single to left-center. With the hit, the 41-year-old Suzuki moves into 38th place since 1900 with hit No. 2,874. It also sparked a two-run rally that extended the Marlins' lead to 3-0.

Napoli blasts 2 HRs as Red Sox top Angels By Ian Browne and Alden Gonzalez / MLB.com
BOSTON -- Coming off perhaps their ugliest loss of the season, the Red Sox responded with their most well-rounded game in weeks en route to an 8-3 victory over the Angels on Saturday at Fenway Park. A two-homer effort by Mike Napoli led the offense, while knuckleballer Steven Wright notched his first career win as a starter. This was the best scoring output for the Red Sox since April 28, when they scored eight times in a loss to the Blue Jays.
