Small ball, D carry Sox in Windy City opener
CHICAGO -- Bragging rights for Day 1 of the White Sox-Cubs Interleague series go to the South Siders' bench. Pinch-hitters Emilio Bonifacio and J.B. Shuck combined for the only run of the game as the White Sox posted a 1-0 win Friday over the Cubs in front of 41,580 at Wrigley Field. The Cubs didn't help themselves, hitting into five double plays in the game. This was the first of six contests this season between the two teams. Last year, the White Sox won the series, 3-1, and they lead overall, 53-46 .

A Twin-credible rally: Dozier's HR gives Twins final word
MINNEAPOLIS -- Brian Dozier insisted after the Twins' stirring 8-6 win over the Tigers on Friday that he hasn't been trying to make any statements about being left off the American League roster for the 2015 All-Star Game. But on Monday, when he found out he wasn't selected to the squad and was instead an Esurance MLB All-Star Game Final Vote candidate, he crushed a walk-off two-run homer to lead the Twins to a 4-2 victory over the Orioles. And on Friday, when it was announced that he'd finished second in the Final Vote to Kansas City's Mike Moustakas, he crushed a walk-off three-run blast to lead Minnesota to an epic win over Detroit at Target Field.

Dee dislocates thumb, will miss All-Star Game X-rays negative; Marlins believe second baseman avoided ligament damage
MIAMI -- Marlins second baseman Dee Gordon, voted in by the fans as a National League All-Star starter, dislocated his left thumb sliding headfirst into first base in the seventh inning of Saturday's 14-3 win at Marlins Park. The team announced the diagnosis in a somber clubhouse. As disappointing as it is that Gordon will miss Tuesday's Midsummer Classic, the Marlins remain hopeful the injury is not too serious. An X-ray came back negative, and the team believes there is no ligament damage. "There definitely is some relief that it's not as bad as it could have been," Gordon said. "I knew as soon as I hit it that it wasn't right."

Pirates stun Cards with another extras walk-off
PITTSBURGH -- Major League Baseball's hottest rivalry kept its boiling point Sunday night, when Gregory Polanco's bases-loaded single with two outs in the 10th capped a three-run rally and gave the Pirates a 6-5 win over the Cardinals. Randal Grichuk's two-run double in the top of the 10th had given the Cards a 5-3 lead. Singles by Starling Marte and Francisco Cervelli off Trevor Rosenthal knotted the score to set the stage for Polanco. "To get three off an All-Star closer ..." Pirates manager Clint Hurdle marveled about his never-say-die crew. "For our guys to even show up after spotting them two -- incredible things happen when you get a group of men together with one common goal."
------------ Greinke chosen to start All-Star Game for NL League leader in ERA selected by Bochy, will oppose Astros' Keuchel
CINCINNATI -- Zack Greinke, the National League's starting pitcher, throws a pitch that Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo calls "a changeup/split-finger/fastball." Rizzo faced the Dodgers' co-ace on June 23, while Greinke was in the beginning stages of a scoreless streak that sits at 35 2/3 innings -- and he came away perplexed. "It's a pitch that you just don't see," Rizzo said, "and he throws it for a strike down and away, and you're like, 'Is that a fastball? Is that a changeup?' You don't know what it is. He dots, he paints the corners, and he does it really well."

Tonight sees the 86th MLB All-Star game, where the National League plays the American League. If anybody is looking to have a bet in this game, i like the look of over 7.5 runs at the price of even money
