It depends on alot,
1) The server is in Las Vegas (where else, considering what the site is about ), so if you're a long way from the states you might not have as fast a connection to the server as if it was based in europe.
2) Time of day, we have most traffic during the day and special the evenings of european hours. During the night of european hours, the server is doing alot of magic and crunching numbers and all that, so it will be a bit slower at that time.
3) We just put in another 1gb of memory (ram) in the server about 24 hours ago, so that has helped a bit too.
4) We just sent out a newsletter to all our members, so there's been alot more visitors the past 48 hours than usual
5) The forum needs to be optimized, cause it's mainly in the forum things are a bit slow. But as you know, the forum isn't where the money is being made, so we can only attend to that sometimes.
6) Your own computer and internet connections. PC's (windows) are terrible when it comes to spyware, antivirus software and all that. Sure, it has become alot better with the new service packs and all that, but lots of our users still use internet explorer 6, which usually indicates a computer that's not completely up-to-date (probably both hardware and software wise), and you'll most likely experience slow websurfing too.
To all internet explorer users (unless you use IE 8 beta), I would recommend downloading Firefox 3 and giving it a spin, it's faster and safer and it's icon is just so much more nice than a blue "e" Or, try out Google Chrome if you don't mind beta software, that's one h*** of a fast browser!

If you try having an internet connection in malta, then you would never place a server here
We picked las vegas because the hosting company was one of the best we could find, at that time, for the price, service , features etc. And, because back then, USA was still allowed for online poker so we had alot of our traffic from overthere, now it's more divided between US and Europe as the biggest.

I just tried out a few things, and took average load time of "10 pageviews as it is now" and "10 pageviews with my modifications" and load time was actually decreased by 50%! It does take some time to fix permanently though, but it's certainly doable in the near future.

Some more updates applied to the forum to address the "slow"-issues, but also some other few bugs. Let me know if you experience any bugs
------------ By the way - before, when it was slow, the average loadtime for the forum frontpage was 4,3 seconds and 4,2 seconds to open a thread - which is alot !!!!
Now (before the updates applied just now), it's 1,6 seconds to open the forum frontpage and 0,4 seconds to open a thread.
Of course, those loadtimes are the amount of time it takes the server to "give" the page to you - it might take longer for you to actually open the page, if your computer/browser is slow or if you don't have all the images etc cached.
I will check the loadtime-stats again in a few days to see how they look after the new updates
