Jaguars TE Julius Thomas could be out a month due to finger surgery

Thomas injured his finger in Jacksonville's first preseason game, and he might have just experienced a major setback less than two weeks before the start of the season.

The Jaguars' prized offseason acquisition may be out of action for the first month of the season. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports tight end Julius Thomas could undergo surgery on a tendon in his finger, which would probably sideline him for the first four or five weeks of the regular season. He is going for a second opinion Tuesday, per GM David Caldwell.

Panthers sign Derek Anderson to 2-year contract extension

The Carolina Panthers announced a two-year contract extension for Derek Anderson on Wednesday, securing the services of the veteran quarterback through the 2017 season. The deal is worth $5 million, according to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport.
This is a smart decision by the Panthers to lock up Anderson now, giving them a reliable safety net in case Newton goes down again in the next two seasons.

Judge nullifies Tom Brady's DeflateGate suspension

Tom Brady's four-game suspension from the NFL for his role in DeflateGate has been nullified by a federal judge.
The case argued by Brady and the NFLPA centered on the argument that it was unfair because NFL commissioner Roger Goodell appointed himself to hear Brady's appeal under the league's personal conduct policy. The union had planned to call Goodell as a witness in the initial appeal, but was denied that opportunity when Goodell appointed himself as the appeal officer.

Eagles reportedly trade Matt Barkley to Cardinals, leaving Tim Tebow as the team's 3rd QB

The Philadelphia Eagles traded quarterback Matt Barkley to the Arizona Cardinals, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. The Cardinals sent a conditional seventh-round pick to the Eagles in the trade, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. The conditions state that Eagles get the pick if Barkley is on Arizona's roster for six games of the regular season.

Now we need Sanchez and Bradford being hurt to see Tim playing.

NFL neurologist who switched RG3 diagnosis resigns, per report

The NFL's independent neurologist who decided Robert Griffin III wasn't fit to play after initially clearing the Washington quarterback has resigned from his post, according to the Washington Post.
Robert Kurtzke will remain the neurologist responsible for deciding when Griffin will be cleared to return to action, but will step down from his position as the NFL's independent neurologist after a confusing fiasco of changing decisions.
Griffin first went down with a concussion in the second week of preseason after absorbing several hits from the Detroit Lions defensive line. After leaving to the locker room, Griffin returned to the field and Joe Theismann, providing color commentary for Washington fans, said that he had been cleared for action.

The Giants are reportedly targeting Seahawks holdout Kam Chancellor

Kam Chancellor's holdout may not only keep him out of action for the start of the regular season, but it could ultimately drive him away from Seattle. NJ.com reports the Giants have expressed interest in acquiring the hard-hitting safety, who didn't step on to the field during training camp because he wants a new contract.
The 27-year-old Chancellor signed a four-year extension in 2013, and has established himself as one of the best strong safeties in the league since then. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said Saturday Chancellor and the Seahawks aren't close to agreeing on a new deal.

James Jones reportedly signing with the Packers

The Green Bay Packers will sign free agent wide receiver James Jones, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. Jones, 31, was released by the New York Giants during final roster cuts on Saturday.
Jones signed with the Giants this offseason, but they felt comfortable with the health of their veteran receivers and the potential of their young receivers. His first free agent visit was in Green Bay, where he spent seven seasons after the Packers took him the third round of the 2007 NFL Draft.

ESPN just nuked the Patriots and NFL for Spygate

It may be hard to believe, but Roger Goodell's seemingly tenuous position as commissioner of the NFL is more secure following his handling of the DeflateGate scandal, according to a bombshell of a story co-written by ESPN's Don Van Natta, Jr. and Seth Wickersham under the Outside the Lines banner. The reason goes all the way back to Spygate, the 2007 New England Patriots videotaping scandal.
Owners and others were disappointed that the NFL did not issue stronger discipline to the Patriots in the wake of the investigation over video taping opposing teams' hand signals. The ESPN report, in talking with owners, executives and others around the league, found that many inside the NFL view Goodell's tough stance on DeflateGate as a "makeup call" for how the league handled the Spygate.

Patriots try to ride DeflateGate luck, request reinstatement for suspended employees

In the latest turn of events in the ongoing DeflateGate saga, the New England Patriots have requested that the NFL reinstate the two employees who were at the center of the ball deflation scandal, per the Associated Press.
A league spokesman acknowledged on Wednesday that the question was under review, despite reports that the Patriots had made several requests since Monday to have the two men reinstated.
The two Patriots employees should know their fates soon, but with the NFL appealing the court's decision on Brady, the rest of us will likely have to endure many more months of DeflateGate headlines.
