Last week I read another story about a problem gambler who resorting to robbing his own 82 year old mother in law,I have recently seen quite a lot of similar stories but this one stands out as this happened over the period of at least 13 years and amazingly he had been caught in 2005 yet was still allowed to handle the rest of her money until she was bankrupt. He also won $1,000,000 on the lotto but still did not use that to pay his debts and lost all that as well. The one good thing from this story is that he has been jailed though only for a couple of years and there was also a kind act from the care home where she lives who have cancelled her debts to the care home. link http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/newslocal/west/neil-ta...

That says a lot for some people and their problems, when the mostly cant handle themselves. But also the inability some times of the authorities to make the right decisions. Why did they let him handle the money after the first incident? .....

Hey mober.....yes it does seem strange that the authorities did not stop him from having access to other peoples money after his first conviction but to allow him to continue to steal from the same victim is very stupid. I think we can see what this guy is like after he said his lotto winnings were his because he had won it himself,no grasping of the fact that he could have repaid the stolen money but he still wasted all of that as well.

And another sad part in this is, that he isnt the only one. There are more like him out there. And it is not hard to see for yourself that you are addicted to something. And what separates you from others, is what you do after, when you realize that you have a problem.

I agree with you mober,I said in my post that we seem to be hearing much more of this kind of thing happening.I have also read that while gambling on the internet has obviously increased in recent years comparatively the amount of people actually gambling has stayed roughly the same. I think the reasons comes more down to the way justice is dealt with these days, years ago it was humiliating and bought the family massive shame to be a criminal......and you would go to prison. These days people just accept it,especially when it comes to fraud.
