Detroit-Washington Capit. 02:00 2,50 3,80 2,30

Capitals team scope: Ovechkin will try again to break a tie with former Red Wings forward Sergei Fedorov for most NHL goals by a Russian-born player. Ovechkin has gone three games without a goal since tying Fedorov with No. 483 on Nov. 7. Washington practiced at home before traveling to Detroit on Tuesday. Defenseman Brooks Orpik hasn't played the past two games because of a lower-body injury sustained against the Red Wings but traveled. Coach Barry Trotz did not confirm if Orpik will play. "I honestly can't answer that," Trotz told the Capitals website. "He's really close. We're just letting the injury settle down. That will really be determined how he feels (on Wednesday) and the next day." Washington recalled forward Stanislav Galiev from Hershey of the American Hockey League; he played two games for the Capitals in October, getting one assist. He has two goals with the Bears.

Red Wings team scope: Detroit did not practice Tuesday after a 4-3 overtime win against the Ottawa Senators on Monday. Former Capitals defenseman Mike Green has played five games since returning from a groin injury; he had two assists Monday and has six points in 12 games this season. "Especially when you're joining a new team you want to help out, contribute, but sometimes it takes a little time to sort of get the feel, the flow, how the team plays," Green said. "I feel like we're really coming along here." Coach Jeff Blashill has been alternating goalies each game lately, so Mrazek is likely to start. The Red Wings assigned forward Tomas Jurco to the Grand Rapids in the AHL for a conditioning assignment; Jurco has been a healthy scratch since Oct. 31.

Ottawa-Columbus BJ 01:30 2,30 3,80 2,50

Blue Jackets team scope: Right wing Jared Boll (lower body) was placed on injured reserve Wednesday. He was injured blocking a shot in his 500th game on Tuesday, a 3-1 win against the St. Louis Blues. Forward Josh Anderson was recalled from Lake Erie of the American Hockey League to take Boll's place. Center Michael Chaput was also recalled from Lake Erie. At the end of practice, Johansen and defenseman Fedor Tyutin shoved each other during a special-teams drill. "It's good. They're competing," coach John Tortorella told The Columbus Dispatch. "It's really good. [Tyutin's] game … he's competitive. You saw him when I sat him out, how angry he was. That's good for the athlete when they're competing. We wanted our penalty killers to work hard, we wanted our power play to figure it out. Stuff like that happens. It's a good atmosphere." The Blue Jackets have won three in a row and five of their past seven games.

Senators team scope: Defensemen Jared Cowen (lower body) practiced Wednesday for the first time since blocking a shot in 2-1 shootout loss against the New York Rangers on Saturday. He missed the Senators' 4-3 overtime loss against the Detroit Red Wings on Monday. General manager Bryan Murray challenged Cowen and defenseman Patrick Weircioch to get better. "We expect more from Wiercioch and Cowen, without a doubt," Murray told the Senators website. "If we're trying to fill one spot, either Patrick or Jared have to take a step and demand to get that role and take advantage of it." This is the fourth game of a five-game homestand. Murray would like to see more consistency from his players. "Our expectations are higher than playing around the .500 level," he said. "I think our team is better than that. It looks to me, talent-wise, that we can match up against a lot of the good teams."

Anaheim Ducks vs. Florida Panthers:

The Florida Panthers are solid 58.1 percent favorites over the Anaheim Ducks. The Panthers are favored partly because they have a +3 edge in shots on goal and are projected for 30 shots on goal vs 27 shots for the Ducks. The Panthers goalie(s) have the edge in save percentage at 91.7% compared to the Ducks goalie(s) who have a forecasted save percentage of 91.2%.

In this game my selection will be Florida Panthers. I wish all fellow BRM the best of luck in their sports betting and poker tables.

Calgary-Chicago Blackhaw. 03:00 2,60 3,80 2,20

Blackhawks team scope: Chicago is looking for its fourth straight win. The Blackhawks defeated the Edmonton Oilers 4-3 in overtime Wednesday in the first game of their annual "Circus Trip." They hope to improve their play in the second game, though, after being outshot by the Oilers 37-27 and having a 43.8 shot attempts percentage (SAT%) at 5-on-5. Chicago has had a sub-50 SAT% in three of its past four road games. Forward Teuvo Teravainen, who left early against Edmonton because of an upper-body injury, won't play. Coach Joel Quenneville told the Chicago Sun-Times on Thursday that the injury is minor, but Teravainen could miss a couple games. Forward Andrew Desjardins, who was scratched the past three games, will play, and Darling will start in goal.

Flames team scope: Calgary is 2-3-0 in its past five games but has won three straight at Scotiabank Saddledome. After defeating the New Jersey Devils 3-2 there on Tuesday, the Flames took Wednesday off before returning for practice Thursday. Defenseman TJ Brodie and forward Jiri Hudler didn't practice. Brodie was off for a recovery day, coach Bob Hartley said, and Hudler was out because of a personal issue. Each is expected to play. With goalie Jonas Hiller (lower body) injured, Ramo will make his 10th straight start. Ramo has started nine of 10 games since being recalled from Stockton of the American Hockey League. "It gives you confidence," Ramo told the Flames website. "It makes preparing yourself and playing easier. The mental side is easy too, because you're only focused on playing games. You don't have to worry about anything else."

Pittsburgh-San Jose Sharks 01:00 2,10 3,80 2,80

Sharks team scope: Defenseman Paul Martin will return to Pittsburgh for the first time since signing with San Jose on July 1. Martin spent five seasons with the Penguins and was considered their most dependable defenseman during the past two. Forward Patrick Marleau needs one point to reach 1,000 in his NHL career. After losing two straight at home, San Jose is looking for its fifth consecutive win to start its six-game road trip. The first four wins on the trip have been by one goal each, including two in overtime. Forward Melker Karlsson scored for the third time in four games to clinch a 1-0 overtime win against the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday. Karlsson, who missed training camp because of a lower-body injury, has three goals and four points in five games since being recalled from the San Jose Barracuda of the American Hockey League on Nov. 9.

Penguins team scope: Pittsburgh will seek a third straight win since holding a closed-door meeting following a 4-0 loss to the New Jersey Devils on Nov. 14. Pittsburgh's once disappointing power play has been a catalyst for the recent success, with three of eight goals coming on the man-advantage in the past two games. "It's definitely better execution, for sure," coach Mike Johnston said. "We're more assertive in taking those shots instead of trying to over-pass. … It's been a focus. I feel like we're getting in a little bit of a rhythm now." With defenseman Olli Maatta (upper body) sidelined 3-4 weeks, Pittsburgh has shuffled its defensive pairings. Rob Scuderi has joined Kris Letang on the top pair, and Ben Lovejoy worked with Brian Dumoulin against the Colorado Avalanche's top line Thursday. Lovejoy and Dumoulin have formed the Penguins' most consistent pairing this season and could see increased time against key forwards. Letang, and forwards Patric Hornqvist and Matt Cullen did not practice Friday but are expected to be available Saturday.
