Columbus-Colorado Avalan. 01:00 2,40 3,80 2,40

Avalanche team scope: Colorado did not practice Friday after a 3-0 win against the New Jersey Devils on Thursday. The win snapped a two-game losing streak. "We needed a good game, and that's what we got. Our guys were sharp," coach Patrick Roy told the Avalanche website. Goaltender Calvin Pickard got his first shutout in his 22nd NHL game. The Avalanche are starting a two-game road trip after playing seven of their past eight at home.

Blue Jackets scope: Goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky could be the backup after Columbus activated him from injured reserve and reassigned goalie Anton Forsberg to the American Hockey League; Bobrovsky hasn't played since Dec. 8, when he sustained a groin injury. "We're going to talk to the trainers and to [Bobrovsky] to see where we're at there, but that's another step in his process of trying to get back," coach John Tortorella told the Blue Jackets website. Forward Markus Hannikainen also was activated from injured reserve; he missed 20 games after sustaining a shoulder injury. Tortorella said defenseman David Savard will be out longer than day-to-day with an upper-body injury.

Washingt-N.Y.Rangers 23:00 2,10 3,80 2,80

Rangers team scope: Backup goalie Antti Raanta is expected to make his first start since Dec. 17 after Henrik Lundqvist made 34 saves through overtime and three in the shootout for a 3-2 win at the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday. The victory moved New York back into second place in the Metropolitan Division. The Rangers will try to win consecutive games for the first time since Nov. 21-23; they are 8-12-3 since then, including two losses to the Capitals. "We're going to take it one game at a time," coach Alain Vigneault said. "I know we're going to have a real tough game [Sunday] night. We're going to train our way to Washington and get ready for a tough opponent."

Capitals team scope: Backup goalie Philipp Grubauer was expected to play in the second of back-to-back games but might not get the start after he wound up playing more than half of a 4-1 loss at the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday. Grubauer entered the game after Braden Holtby allowed three goals on 16 shots before being pulled 7:14 into the second period, and coach Barry Trotz said he hadn’t decided who would play against the Rangers. Fourth-line center Brooks Laich, who was a healthy scratch Saturday, is expected to play after Mike Richards made his debut with Washington against Buffalo. Defenseman Karl Alzner said not having a day off after a poor performance is a good thing. "We know we got a little too fancy at times," he told Monumental Network. "We’ll get back on the horse [Sunday]. I think sometimes it's OK to lose games when things are going good. You get a little bit of a reality check, take a step back."

Winnipeg-Colorado Avalan. 02:00 2,25 3,80 2,60

Avalanche team scope: Varlamov is scheduled to start after Calvin Pickard played the past two games, including a 2-1 loss at the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday. Goaltender Reto Berra (ankle), defensemen Erik Johnson (lower body) and Brad Stuart (back), and forwards Ben Street (chest) and Jesse Winchester (head) are out. The power play is scoreless in the past four games (0-for-9). Colorado has lost three of its past four as it begins a four-game week in which it plays three Central Division opponents. A two-game homestand starts Wednesday against the Buffalo Sabres.

Jets team scope: Forwards Adam Lowry and Drew Stafford will miss the game after they were placed on injured reserve Sunday, retroactive to Jan. 14. Each has an upper-body injury. "We'll have a better idea by [Monday]," coach Paul Maurice told the Jets website when asked how long Lowry and Stafford would be out. "You get better information as how go on exactly what you're dealing with. I was hopeful that they would feel a lot better the next day and they didn't." The Jets recalled forwards Patrice Cormier and JC Lipon from Manitoba of the American Hockey League. Cormier, who played one NHL game earlier this season, has six goals and six assists in 34 AHL games; Lipon has eight goals and nine assists in 22 AHL games. Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck is expected to start for the 16th time in the past 18 games after shutting out the Minnesota Wild 1-0 on Friday. Winnipeg has won two games in a row but remains last in the Central Division, three points behind the fifth-place Nashville Predators and two points behind Colorado. Winnipeg hosts Nashville on Thursday as a stretch of nine of 10 games at MTS Centre continues.

Montreal-Boston Bruins 01:30 2,40 3,80 2,40

Bruins team scope: Center David Krejci practiced for the first time since he sustained an upper-body injury in a game against the Ottawa Senators on Dec. 27. He and forward David Pastrnak, who has missed the past three games with an upper-body injury, skated on a fifth line with extra forward Tyler Randell, so each is unlikely to play Tuesday despite traveling to Montreal. "I need to feel 100 percent skating and 100 percent shooting. I'm getting there, but it was a good day today," Krejci told the Bruins website. Coach Claude Julien confirmed defenseman Adam McQuaid has not skated since he sustained an upper-body injury on a hit from behind by Washington Capitals forward Zach Sill on Jan. 5. After back-to-back wins against the Buffalo Sabres on Friday and Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday, the Bruins are one point in front of the Canadiens in the Atlantic Division with two games in hand.

Canadiens team scope: After back-to-back road losses, 4-3 in overtime to the St. Louis Blues on Saturday and 5-2 to the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday, Montreal did not practice Monday. Goalie Carey Price (lower body) and defenseman Tom Gilbert (lower body) remain out. Since Dec. 1, the Canadiens are 5-15-1, the worst record in the NHL, and have a minus-23 goal differential. "We're all pros," forward Brendan Gallagher told the Canadiens website after the loss Sunday. "We understand that when things aren't going right, people are going to ask questions. But it's important for us to stick together as a team. That's what we're talking about. We're going to get out of this. It's taking longer than we would have liked, but we're going to get out of this. The only way we're going to do that is by sticking together as a group."

Anaheim-Minnesota Wild 04:30 2,30 3,80 2,50

Wild team scope: Minnesota placed forward Ryan Carter on injured reserve; he has missed the past three games because of injuries to each of his hands. The Wild recalled defenseman Tyson Strachan from Iowa of the American Hockey League. Strachan has skated in two games with Minnesota and gives the Wild a physical presence on the back end. The Wild have lost four straight games, have been shut out in the past two and have scored five goals in their past five games (1-4-0). "We have to put the puck in the net," coach Mike Yeo told the team's website. "We generated chances [in a 3-0 loss at the Nashville Predators on Saturday], more chances than we had in a lot of the games, and the way we were generating the opportunities to me was a real positive as well."

Ducks team scope: Anaheim could be without defenseman Sami Vatanen, who missed practice on Tuesday because of flu-like symptoms. Vatanen leads Ducks defensemen and is third on the team in scoring with 22 points, including six goals. Anaheim is finishing a season-long eight-game homestand; the Ducks are 4-3-0. "You want to end up on a good note. But they have struggled too," coach Bruce Boudreau told the Orange County Register. "So they're coming in here with a pretty determined will, I'm sure. It should be a good game."
