Nashvil-N.Y.Islanders 01:00 2,20 3,80 2,60
Islanders team scope: It's the second game of New York's three-game road trip, which opened with a 2-1 shootout loss at the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday. The Islanders headed for Nashville after the game and did not practice Wednesday. Forward Brock Nelson was a healthy scratch Tuesday after playing 202 consecutive games, but could be re-inserted into the lineup. Forward Shane Prince was also a healthy scratch. "I'm not looking at those guys sitting because of their effort or the way they've played," coach Jack Capuano told Newsday. "They've played well. It's a tough decision to make. It's just a decision that we made and to me they've done nothing wrong to come out. … Come [Thursday], those guys probably will be back in." A decision on a starting goaltender won't be announced until Thursday morning; Jean-Francois Berube was solid in a 33-save performance Tuesday. Thomas Greiss is 8-1-2 in his past 11 starts.
Predators team scope: Nashville will play its first game at Bridgestone Arena since March 3; the Predators went 3-1-1 on a five-game road trip. Eight of their final 12 games will be played at home. "That was our fourth or fifth trip that long, and it's good to get back home; you do one, it's OK, you do your fifth one and you're like, 'All right, it's time to get back to our building and in front of our fans,'" coach Peter Laviolette told the Predators website after practice Wednesday. "But in saying that, we have to keep things going the way we've been playing and take care of business at home." Goalie Pekka Rinne is likely to start; he has won three of his past four. The Predators on Wednesday assigned forwards Gabriel Bourque and Eric Nystrom to Milwaukee of the American Hockey League on long-term injury loans.

Calgary-Colorado Avalan. 02:00 2,40 3,80 2,40
Avalanche team scope: Goalie Semyon Varlamov is expected to make his fifth consecutive start. He made 28 saves in a 3-1 win against the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday. The win moved the Avalanche past the Minnesota Wild and into the second wild card in the Western Conference. "Right now, we're not looking at the standings anymore. We just need to win our games," Varlamov told the Avalanche website. "We're in a good position, and I can tell you it's up to us." Defensemen Chris Bigras missed his fourth game on Wednesday with concussion-like symptoms. Coach Patrick Roy said Brigas will be re-evaluated prior to the game and said if he is healthy, he will play. In his absence, Andrew Bodnarchuk has played with Eric Gelinas on the third pairing. Captain Gabriel Landeskog serve the final game of his three-game suspension. The Avalanche have won three of their past four games.
Flames team scope: Goalie Joni Ortio will make his seventh straight start, and Nicklas Backstrom will make his first start since being acquired prior to the NHL Trade Deadline against the Montreal Canadiens on Sunday. Defenseman Dennis Wideman, who sustained an upper-body injury in the first period on Wednesday, had an MRI on Thursday. "He was getting tested this morning," coach Bob Hartley told the Flames website. "Unfortunately I don't have anything new." Defensemen Mark Giordano and Deryk Engelland did not practice, but are expected to play. Forward Sam Bennett (upper body) and defenseman TJ Brodie (upper body) practiced on Wednesday, but are doubtful. Goalie Karri Ramo (knee) and defensemen Ladislav Smid (neck) are out. Left wing Kenny Agostino was reassigned to Stockton of the American Hockey League. This concludes a six-game homestand for the Flames, who have gone 3-1-1. The line of Mikael Backlund, Joe Colborne and Michael Frolik has combined for nine goals in the past five games.
N.H.L. The Ottawa Senators at the Buffalo Sabres pick Ottawa. The Nashville Predators at the Washington Capitals pick Washington. The Chicago Blackhawks at the Winnepeg Jets pick Chicago GL.

Vancouv-St.Louis Blues 03:00 3,20 3,90 1,90
Blues team scope: Goalie Brian Elliott was activated from injured reserve and will start for the first time since Feb. 22. He missed 10 games with a lower-body injury. Jake Allen started the past 10 games; the Blues went 6-4-0 but have lost two in a row after a season-high six-game winning streak. "It's good to get the opportunity, get back in there," Elliott said after practice Friday at Rogers Arena. "I've been practicing well for two weeks. It's good to get back in game action." Elliott was 6-0-1 with a 2.05 goals-against average and .935 save percentage in eight games before his injury. Gunnarsson (lower body) did not practice Friday and is questionable. Right wing Ryan Reaves, a healthy scratch Wednesday, is expected to replace Magnus Paajarvi in the lineup.
Canucks team scope: Former St. Louis goalie Ryan Miller likely will start; he is 2-5-0 with a 3.03 GAA and .900 save percentage in seven career games against the Blues. Jacob Markstrom made 23 saves in a 2-0 loss at the Edmonton Oilers on Friday, the sixth time Vancouver was shut out this seawson. It was the Canucks' third straight loss and sixth in nine games in March. Forward Jannik Hansen (ribs), who was looking to return either against the Oilers or Blues, will not play; he missed his ninth straight game Friday. Right wing Radim Vrbata left Friday in the third period with a lower-body injury and did not return. The Canucks are 5-2-1 in the second of back-to-back games this season.
N.H.L. The Buffalo Sabres at the Toronto Maple Leafs pick Buffalo. The Montreal Canadiens at the Ottawa Senators pick Ottawa. The Detriot Red Wings at the Florida Panthers pick Florida. The New Jersey Devils at the Columbus Blue Jackets pick New Jersey GL.

Edmonton-Colorado Avalan. 02:30 2,20 3,80 2,60
Avalanche team scope: There were no updates on forwards Matt Duchene (knee) and Nathan MacKinnon (knee), and defenseman Eric Gelinas (elbow) on Saturday. Colorado recalled forward Mikko Rantanen from San Antonio of the American Hockey League. Duchene missed a 4-3 shootout win against the Calgary Flames on Friday, and Gelinas and MacKinnon left that game. Coach Patrick Roy said Gelinas was out indefinitely and MacKinnon would be re-evaluated Saturday. Captain Gabriel Landeskog will return after a three-game suspension. Goalie Semyon Varlamov is expected to make his sixth straight start; he has won four of his past five games.
Oilers team scope: Goalie Cam Talbot is expected to start; he has started six of the past seven, has won back-to-back games, and made 40 saves in a 2-0 win against the Vancouver Canucks on Friday. Talbot is 7-2-1 in his past 10 starts with a .948 save percentage. Defensemen Oscar Klefbom (leg), Andrew Ference (hip), Eric Gryba (knee), Brandon Davidson (knee), Adam Pardy (hand) and forward Benoit Pouliot (shoulder) are out. The Oilers did not practice Saturday. After the win Friday, coach Todd McLellan singled out the play of rookie defensemen Griffin Reinhart and Jordan Oesterle. "I think that pair has been pretty steady since we've put them together," McLellan told the Oilers website. "They both played big minutes, they penalty killed."
This game was a nasty affair, for a good period it looked like the Rangers has a real chance here then they've got steamrolled over by four goals. Nice.
