Islanders team scope: New York has lost five of its past six games, including 7-4 at the Tampa Bay Lightning on Friday. Goaltender Jean-Francois Berube, who made 22 saves in a 3-1 win against the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday, could start the second game of the back-to-back. The Islanders had their best offensive output since March 5 but struggled defensively, allowing 42 shots against Thomas Greiss. "We have to turn the page real quick," captain John Tavares said. "We've got a lot of hockey coming up and it starts [Saturday]. Every game matters and it's important that we bounce back."
Hurricanes team scope: Carolina recalled forward Patrick Brown from Charlotte of the American Hockey League, where he had 13 goals in 66 games. The Hurricanes won 3-2 at the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday, when they scored their goals in a 98-second span early in the third period and goalie Eddie Lack made 42 saves. "Some nights you play great when you don't have too much to do, and some nights you play good when you have a lot to do," Lack said. Blackhawks team scope: Chicago needs one point to clinch a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the eighth straight season after a 4-1 win at the Calgary Flames on Saturday. Scott Darling, who made 23 saves, has started five straight games, the last four after Crawford was sidelined with an undisclosed upper-body injury. Darling is expected to start again. Crawford did not make the trip and remains day-to-day. "We think he's going to be ready [for the playoffs] and we think he's close, but we still don't see him on the ice, so I can't answer that [with certainty]," coach Joel Quenneville told the Blackhawks' website. "But we expect him to be ready." Forward Marcus Kruger (left wrist) returned against Calgary, playing for the first time since Dec. 17. He centered the fourth line, helped Chicago go 2-for-2 on the penalty kill and finished plus-2. Andrew Ladd, who had three points (two goals) against the Flames, has five goals and eight points in 12 games since being re-acquired in a trade Feb. 26.
Canucks team scope: Vancouver has lost seven straight games and 11 of its past 14. It's the Canucks' longest losing streak since they lost seven in a row from Jan. 27-Feb. 8, 2014, during John Tortorella's only season as coach. The franchise record is 10, set in 1997-98. Vancouver, which has been shut out in four of its past five games, didn't practice Saturday. The Canucks played their past three games on the road in a span of four days, including back-to-back losses at the Nashville Predators on Thursday and St. Louis Blues on Friday. Injuries, inexperience and fatigue appear to be big problems, but Henrik Sedin bristles at that suggestion. "I don't want to say that," Sedin told The Province. "This is the NHL, and even though we have young guys, that's no excuse. If you're here, you have to be prepared and play. It doesn't matter how old you are. Oilers team scope: Edmonton was off Sunday following a 6-4 loss to the Kings Saturday and concluded a 1-2-0 road trip. Rookie Laurent Brossoit allowed five goals on 32 shots and is still looking for his first NHL win; he's 0-4-1 this season and 0-5-1 in his career. "I still think [Brossoit] needs to be better. He has things to learn like the rest of our team," coach Todd McLellean told the Oilers website. "He has to be better in certain situations, I think the shorthanded goal was some indecision. I think there were some longer shots with rebounds he couldn't control, and yet he made some really good saves." Cam Talbot, who has started eight of the past 11 games, could be in net. Following Monday, the Oilers do not play again until Saturday and have four games in the next two weeks.

Blackhawks team scope: Goaltender Scott Darling is expected to start; he has played the past six games while Corey Crawford has been nursing an upper-body injury. Chicago did not practice Monday following a 3-2 win against the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena on Sunday. The Blackhawks clinched a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs win the victory and could still catch the Dallas Stars and St. Louis Blues for the Central Division title. With 95 points, Chicago trails each by four points; all three teams have six games remaining. "It's still a dogfight in the standings and for position," said Blackhawks forward Andrew Ladd. "These are the games you need to have." Chicago is also trying to hold off the fourth-place Nashville Predators.
Wild team scope: Forward David Jones missed practice on Monday with an illness and is questionable. Jason Zucker, who has been a healthy scratch in each of the past two games, took Jones' place with the second group during line rushes. Jones was the only player to miss practice for Minnesota, which has won a season-best five consecutive games. The Wild won 4-0 against the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday to increase their lead over Colorado for the second wild card spot into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Western Conference. "We're still chasing until [we're] in," Wild coach John Torchetti said. "You have to get the points and that's all that matters. [Tuesday] night is two points and then we go from there." Dubnyk will start; he is 10-1-1 with a 1.98 goals-against average and a .930 save percentage over his past 13 starts.
