Philadel-Washington Capit. 02:00 2,55 3,80 2,25

Capitals team scope: Coach Barry Trotz isn't sure if defenseman Dmitry Orlov will be in the lineup Wednesday. Orlov's turnovers have led to goals-against the past two games and Trotz said he spoke with him about his play. "I'm not going to say if he's going to play or not," Trotz told MonumentalNetwork.com. "I don't think I'm obligated to do that. Plus I don't want to give Philly a heads up. We had a good conversation today. I think he understands where I'm coming from." Orlov said he knows he has to be better. "The last couple games I made mistakes that cost us goals," he told CSNWashington.com. "I know I can do a better job of that. … I will try to do the right things and maybe do the simple play sometimes." Trotz believes a game against a potential opponent in the Eastern Conference First Round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs will be good. "If we go in with the right attitude and we're ready to go, ready to play, it'll be a good experience for us no matter what," he said. "The environment, the intensity, all those things."

Flyers team scope: Philadelphia had an optional practice Tuesday, choosing rest in the midst of their push for a playoff spot. The Flyers entered Tuesday holding the second wild card in the playoffs from Eastern Conference with 87 points. The Flyers' 3-2 overtime win against the Winnipeg Jets on Monday came in their first game back after a four-game road trip that concluded Saturday at the Arizona Coyotes and a cross-country flight home Sunday. "We had a long road trip, some pretty heavy games there, and that travel day with the time change is pretty taxing on everybody's body," coach Dave Hakstol told the Philadelphia Inquirer. "I thought our guys gave everything they had in the tank [Monday]." Goalie Steve Mason is expected to start. Ray Emery will join the Flyers Wednesday on a tryout basis, but general manager Ron Hextall said Anthony Stolarz is still the No. 2 goalie. "This really doesn't change anything," Hextall said Tuesday. "It just adds a layer of depth for us." It would be Mason's seventh straight start and 12th in the past 13 games. In Mason's past 11 games he's 7-2-2 with a 1.97 goals-against average and .929 save percentage.

Carolina-N.Y.Rangers 01:00 2,65 3,80 2,15

Rangers team scope: New York can clinch a Stanley Cup Playoff berth with a regulation or overtime win against Carolina. "You want to clinch as quickly as you can," defenseman Marc Staal told BlueshirtsUnited. "It's a great feeling to have. We've been building on this the last month to get where we wanted to be." Forward Eric Staal, who spent parts of 12 seasons with the Hurricanes, will play his first game in Carolina since the Rangers acquired him on Feb. 28. "I think it'll be a lot of unique, different emotions just in general because of being there," Staal said Tuesday, "and being there so long playing in that building for the home team and now being on the opposing side." Staal, who scored twice in the Rangers' 3-2 overtime loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday, did not practice Wednesday because he traveled to Carolina to be with his family. Defenseman Dylan McIlrath (knee) rotated in the defensive pairs and has been medically cleared to play but will likely be a healthy scratch.

Hurricanes team scope: Carolina, which did not practice Wednesday, has points in four straight games (2-0-2) but is facing the likelihood of missing the playoffs for the seventh consecutive season. The Hurricanes have five games remaining. "We've developed an identity," coach Bill Peters told the Hurricanes website after a 2-1 shootout loss to the New York Islanders on Tuesday. "We're not going to stray from that. We want to continue to play hard, play on the inside and do good things." Carolina's 16 losses after regulation lead the NHL. Forward Derek Ryan, who was recalled from Charlotte of the American Hockey League on Tuesday, scored his second NHL goal during the game against the Islanders. The Hurricanes reassigned forward Brody Sutter to Charlotte on Wednesday. Forward Sergey Tolchinsky was recalled and is expected to make his NHL debut against the Rangers.

Colorado-Washington Capit. 03:00 2,60 3,80 2,20

Capitals team scope: Goalie Braden Holtby is two wins shy of tying Martin Brodeur's NHL single-season record of 48; Holtby is 3-0-1 with a .963 save percentage and 0.98 goals-against average in his past four starts, including a 2-1 shootout loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday. Holtby and Philipp Grubauer are likely to split back-to-back games against the Avalanche and Arizona Coyotes on Saturday. Washington lost 41 of 69 faceoffs (59 percent) against Philadelphia and was 18th in the NHL at 49.8 percent before games Thursday. "I think everyone needs to help out to win draws," center Nicklas Backstrom told CSN Mid-Atlantic. "Puck possession is important and it's something we need to work on." Washington can set a Capitals record for regulation and overtime wins in a season; they had 50 in 1985-86.

Avalanche team scope: Center Matt Duchene (knee) practiced Thursday and is expected to return after missing six games. "I feel good," Duchene told The Denver Post. "I think I'm ready to go. I skated hard the last four days, five days actually now. ... I'm looking forward to it." Duchene is Colorado's leading scorer with 29 goals and 56 points. MacKinnon, who is out with a knee injury, has yet to skate and is expected to miss the final five games. The Avalanche are five points behind the Minnesota Wild for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Western Conference. Minnesota also has five games remaining. "We just have to win our games," Duchene said. "[Minnesota has] won six in a row. Hopefully that levels out and they'll go downhill a little bit. But they're playing well. We can't control that. We can only control what we can control, and that's tomorrow night against Washington."

Philadelphia Flyers vs Ottawa Senators

The home team Philadelphia Flyers are going to host the visitor Ottawa Senators this evening in the NHL. I do not really know, whose game it will be, but I am sure in one thing, this will not be a kind of a game rich in goal. Dollar Thumbs Up

Carolina-Columbus BJ 01:00 2,10 3,80 2,80

Blue Jackets team scope: Jared Boll is eligible to return after serving a four-game suspension for a hit to Philadelphia Flyers forward Pierre Edouard Bellemare on March 22. Rookie goaltender Joonas Korpisalo will start, coach John Tortorella said on Friday. Korpisalo made 26 saves against Carolina on Jan. 9. Defenseman Justin Falk was recalled from Lake Erie of the American Hockey League on Friday; his second call-up in as many days. Ryan Murray (illness) played in a 4-3 loss to the New York Islanders Thursday and Falk was returned to the Monsters. Tortorella told the Columbus Dispatch on Friday that Murray is a "little banged up." Columbus has lost four straight and eight of 11 (3-8-0).

Hurricanes team scope: Carolina is five points behind Philadelphia for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Eastern Conference with four games remaining following a 4-3 win against the New York Rangers on Thursday. "We're going to build off it and try to win as many games as we can and see what happens," rookie forward Patrick Brown said. Forwards Derek Ryan and Sergey Tolchinsky were reassigned to Charlotte of the American Hockey League on Friday. Ryan has two goals in five games for the Hurricanes. Tolchinsky made his NHL debut on Thursday and had an assist. Brown had his first NHL goal and assist in the same game. "These kids who have come up have done a good job, all of them have," coach Bill Peters said. Carolina is 8-0-2 in its past 10 games vs. Columbus.
