Capitals team scope: Defenseman Brooks Orpik will return to the lineup Tuesday after serving a three-game suspension for a hit on Penguins defenseman Olli Maatta in Game 2. Orpik has averaged 20:15 of ice time in five Stanley Cup Playoff games. Orpik said Monday that it's been difficult watching the past three games. "Nothing I can do about it," he said. "Just watch. They were three games that could have gone either way. We're not in the position that we foresaw, but we have a good opportunity tomorrow." Ovechkin skated at left wing with center Evgeny Kuznetsov at practice Monday. Backstrom centered left wing Andre Burakovsky and right wing Marcus Johansson.
Penguins team scope: Rookie goalie Matt Murray will start in Game 6. Murray and goalie Marc-Andre Fleury each practiced Monday, but Murray seemed to receive the bulk of the work. Murray allowed three goals on 19 shots in Game 5, his second loss in eight playoff starts. Fleury has not played since sustaining a concussion against the Nashville Predators on March 31. "The reality is, Marc is a terrific goalie. We know that," coach Mike Sullivan said. "Unfortunately, he suffered an injury late in the season that kept him out for an extended period of time. That's a difficult circumstance. It's nobody's fault. It is what it is." Sullivan said Maatta would be a game-time decision. If Maatta returns Tuesday, he could be paired with defenseman Trevor Daley. Defenseman Brian Dumoulin skated alongside Kris Letang, who Maatta normally is paired with. Crosby and Hornqvist were linemates again at practice Monday. Joining them was left wing Conor Sheary. Forward Tom Kuhnhackl, who replaced Hornqvist on Crosby's line during Game 5, returned to the fourth line with center Matt Cullen and right wing Bryan Rust.

Blues team scope: The Blues may make some lineup changes after losing Game 6. Defenseman Joel Edmundson could re-enter the lineup after being a healthy scratch Monday. Also, Steve Ott or Ryan Reaves could take Dmitrij Jaskin's forward spot on the fourth line. Hitchcock is 4-2 in Game 7s. Forward Troy Brouwer will be playing in a Game 7 for an NHL-record eighth straight playoff series; he's 3-4. Right wing Vladimir Tarasenko went five straight periods from the third period of Game 4 through the first period of Game 6 without a shot on goal. "I think there's opportunities for him probably to play a little bit more give-and-go," Hitchcock said. "I looked at the tape this morning. He had a number of attack chances that either got blocked or didn't hit the net. When you're a shooter, everybody gets in the lanes."
Stars team scope: Forward Travis Moen, who sustained a hand injury in Game 5, is out for the remainder of the playoffs. "[He] is going to be out for a good period of time," Ruff said. "That cast is on I believe for at least three weeks. I didn't even ask how it happened. It happened early in the game. He played the whole game with it." Forward Radek Faksa is OK after blocking a shot late in Game 6. Also, forward Patrick Sharp got a bit of a scare after a collision with Backes in the first period but is fine. "We've got some guys with minor bumps, bruises," said Ruff, who is 0-3 in Game 7s. "We've got some players that are hurt, and I think they might have some players hurt too. It's been a hard series so far, but all our bumps and bruises are available to play."

The Predators played every other day since Game 1 of their first-round series against the Ducks on April 15 before getting a two-day break after Game 6 against the Sharks. "It's nice to be able to just get a skate and a practice and not have to worry about playing a game tonight, where we can take a day to enjoy the moment right now and the situation we're in and be able to refresh a little bit and refocus on the game tomorrow," Johansen said. They aren't scheduled to have a morning skate Thursday. Nashville defeated San Jose 4-3 in overtime in Game 6 at home, surviving its third elimination game of the playoffs. Laviolette juggled his lines for that game, moving Viktor Arvidsson to the top line with Johansen and Filip Forsberg. Arvidsson scored at 2:03 of overtime to force Game 7.
Sharks team scope: San Jose, which traveled from Nashville to San Jose on Tuesday, had an up-tempo practice Wednesday. "We had a real good day today, looked at some film, had a good practice," DeBoer said. "I know we'll be ready." Third-line left wing Matt Nieto didn't practice. He left Game 6 late in the third period with an undisclosed injury after crashing into the goal post on a rush and did not return. It's unknown whether he'll be able to play in Game 7. If Nieto can't play, Tommy Wingels likely will return to the lineup on the fourth line after being a healthy scratch for Games 5 and 6; Melker Karlsson would move up to the third line.
