Lower middle-class family, five kids etc. He somehow still managed to scrape together 9hundred bucks to enter this and another nine hundred for his re-entry so it's not so much as a cinderella story rather than blind luck. Besides that asians good at math. Not all of them but many of them 4 sure.

Many congratulations to Hung Le on winning this event and the $888,888 first prize. It makes a change to hear a poker player saying that this is life changing money and i hope he enjoys it

I bet Hung Le, a 53-year-old amateur player, is still on cloud nine even days after successfully conquering $888 buy-in Crazy Eights 8-Handed No-Limit Hold'em tournament that earned him a precious WSOP bracelet.

Whichever way he got in and however he funded his rebuy, winning in the way he did just goes to show that it's not about the cards in your hand that are important, it's having the bottle to make some wild shouts to give yourself a chance to win. It's also a nice story and whether it's genuine or not...well done to the winner.

I don't doubt his talent - the original article does though - and I just wish I could have some of his luck too.
I am just pretty tired of all these 'fairy tales' about unsuccessful gamblers who are scraping together their last pennies to play/bet/risk their luck one more time etc. etc.
He obviously knew what goes where otherwise he would have never risk more than a thousand dollaroos to this.

I know many people from Vietnam who was immigrated to or born in the USA. They are generally very hard-working people and have strong family/relative-ties/bonds.
I can tell you that $1,000 is not a huge amount of money even for a family of a modest income living in the USA.
