Just finished the 30k hands grind on party, kept daily totals and omg, it is fairly bad viewing. I have never been a losing player at any of the games I play (including blackjack back in the day, slots and roulette), due to the way I use bonus' and things to add value, but I am confidently saying I absolutely lost this challenge and it was entirely my fault.
The figures: Start $150 (that was built from zero from free spins/brm games etc). Deposited $199 (two deposits) Total BR: $349
Total losses on challenge: -$234.60 Total losses on bankroll: -$191.78
Now, I have never gone a calendar year making a loss on any site but on party poker I am £160 GBP down. (but have approx. £110 on site).
That gives me 4.5 months to make back approx. $200 from MTT's again.
I will keep post updated, hopefully every day but more than likely every couple of days. I will play pretty much only MTT's but will also make use of free bets and free spins etc.
I will play as many games from the bootcamp tab as possible, and will also be playing all of pokerfest mini.
I will make the money back, the question is how quickly, because I will also be back to playing some mtt's on 888, my usual DYM games on sky + I need to crack on and earn some coins back on FT/Stars so I can keep my hand in the deal, as well as my usual sports betting.

This was a significant loss on a challenge however you still have a good BR. and your goal of winning $200.00 in a 4.5 months i won't say will be easy but i believe that with your poker play i am pretty sure that you will do it.
I wish you a lot of luck and not to many loss with your A K.

Posted by yout85: Happy to offer a few pointers again anytime... on a sort of (enforced) break from playing myself... so will help me not go insane
Thank you I would love that, I have probably forgotten all you told me before because I didn't write it down. I will next time.
Didn't know you were on a break, what happened?

Yeah it was a killer of a loss, I am quite annoyed with myself.
Oh well, best to learn from it, move on and make profit where I know I can.
I would hope to win that back in a month just playing one site, but playing several makes it a bit tougher.

Posted by TheMachineQC: Downswings happen, unfortunately it's the reality of poker. But you're lucky you're still way up in your overall winnings
Keep grinding, luck will come your way soon enough... MTTs are all about volume, downswings are very common even for the best players.

Thanks. To be clear though, this was cash games and it wasn't a downswing. Even with some horrific beats, I know I sucked and deserved to lose.
It wasn't a downswing, it was me not being good enough.
Back now to doing what I do best.
I will put quite a few hands up here for people to pull apart. I was looking for the hand that knocked me out of the PP BRM freeroll, but cant find it and PP don't make it easy to find hands these days.

G'day mate
I was truly saddened when I read your original post. I truly understand how you feel. I too have been on a losing streak over the last 3 months and my total bankroll is currently down by a little over - $350... However when one considers I was down almost - $1000 a year ago then I am happy to have clawed my way upward up out of a deep hole.
You CAN do it as well. I know you have the skills to do well. You have already acknowledged the Mtt's are your strength, so that is where you know you need to go. Wishing you all the very best. You CAN do it! be cool
Hi kweenee, thank you for this honest insight of you playing the "Summer of Grind" promotion. I really haven't found the time to play it and when I had the time my bankroll was low. I can't blame you for not making profit, since it is really hard over there, my personal experience is that on the PS software it is more easy due to a wider audience, on the PP software I get so much three bets when I try to steal the blinds, so I was folding my bluffs all the time. People seem more sharky or crazy, i dont know. Playing good hands only, what works very fine, doesn't work in the FastForward in partypoker. it is hard and no wonder you loose a little.

Interesting post IQA. I think the important thing is that you have already identified the issue. I think you were focussed on achieving the target of the amount of hands rather than on playing truly effective poker. Cash is different to MTT, so in those upcoming MTT's, focus on your play rather than making up your losses. Remember though....even the great players bust out of tourneys, but they bust out trying to win...and occasionally they win big!

By reading the title, i thought you won big time and you are throwing a party which isnt the case. Since you feel and know that you can get that money back then its not a big problem i guess. Just a step back in time. Good luck getting it back with interest

Good luck to you on your venture and i hope that you can at least get back to your original Bankroll. You seem to be a very level headed player and you have identified what you have done wrong which is a very good thing. Good luck again

Stop chasing the losses, account it as 'money gone out the window' and do a tabula rasa for the rest of the year on PP. At least this is what I'd do but I am not much of a grinder anyway.
Second that.
Just skip the 'Total on pre-challenge' line, that doesn't mean anything other than an unnecessary distraction. If you need a baseline, then maybe use 'total career winnings', which I imagine is a far greater positive number. Feel good about that!

Total career winnings is about $40000 but haven't got exact figures
------------ Bit of a weird afternoon. Played 6 mtt's, was deep in two of them. But got outdrawn at crucial times and ended up busting in 5. Still in one but very SS, then will take a break before this evening. Only -$5 because buyins cheap, but that's the life of a mtt'er.

That is a really impressive number icequeen. Would have never guessed that your winnings are that high. Not even close. The big question here is how long is your career ? So that loss of yours cant even considered a step back. Congratulations, with even more winnings in the future.

Well that's my total from all bonusbetting. Sadly I have never separated it out (wish I had now). But you have to remember, back when there was a big explosion in poker/online gambling, it was near impossible to lose. Those of us clever enough used the $1000 guaranteed profit which was from blackjack and that led on to the $336 a month car payment. (Blackjack used to count as 100% towards the clearing requirement). Also, some sites such as pacific poker (now 888) would give $50 sign up free cash with no play-through requirements. Sports betting live didn't have a delay on it, so we could bet on things that pretty much already happened. And the average poker skill was so much lower.
These days you cant win from blackjack, sports betting has a delay and poker skill average is way higher. So it is a lot harder to win. I average consistently around £100 a month (which is approx., $130 a month) atm. Consider this started around 2003, that's 16 years. 16 * 12 = 192 months $40000/192 months = $208 a month. That really isn't a lot. Well don't get me wrong, its fun and all that, and helps a lot but its never gonna lead to winning millions. These days I don't even break even on the games I play, nearly all my profit is coming from using bonus' and free bets wisely.
------------ Ended up with losses of 33.75 last night, so my total is -$28.74.
This may sound painful (I took some horrid beats at critical times) but actually leaves me in profit across all my sites for the day, so although it is annoying, I am not losing any sleep over it.
