A rake race is where a small part of all the participants rake goes to a common prizepool and then every players rake is measured in the end of the month/period(sometimes over several months) and the prizepool is dealt in prizes for the top rakers.

As doomdy say you will find rakeraces on allmost every site often more than 1 race. Often the site has their own rake race but all the affiliates on the site has their own private rakerace too. So it's about finding a race you can beat or atleast get a top placing cause it's not a problem finding a race but more like finding 1 with value in for you. Most rake races has a top heavy prize structure which means it's the highrollers who get most of the money. I earn 200-500$ every month in a private rakerace and earn rakeback/bonus in addition so there is def value in them. Even if you´find a small private rakerace you will have to play alot to win it but you can easily find something that gives you a small payout every month.
Even if I make a deposit of $500 to try to get any prizes from the race, I think I've got no chance as I'm a normal person who don't have enough time to rake as MUCH as you can in order to win this. There's a lot of people playing quite 24 hours poker to win stuff like that & you've no chance to beat them there

3 things effect how much you rake, time spend, number of tables and stakes. Ofcourse you can't deposit 500$ and expect to compete with people who have 4 tables running with 400$ on each table. To get value from any rakerace I would say you need to multitable NL50 or higher so that would mean you need a bankroll of atleast 1000-1500$. Rake race is not for players who deposit a small sum and play for fun as long as it last but more for serious regular players who know they will multitable grind atleast a couple of hours every day.
