Posted by olin111: just got kicked out of 1000 $ tourney with AK against A6. i played it like this:
made 70 raise /10-20 blinds/ 1 caller
flop 3 A 7 rainbow, he raises to 250, I KNOW HE GOT ACE and small cards, not 2 pairs because he would play it non agresive, so i raise allin presuming i got the best hand. turn 9, river 6.... WTF???
i went crazy at the guy. i know i play agresively, but i read people well i i know ill double up, and i loose like a moron. the river is killing me lately. do you think i played it too agresively? i know i did, but i was so sure i got him
how would you ply it, it was just the begining of MTT.
In my opinion you cannot played it better. It was bad beat :/ Unfortunately it happens and you cannot do anything with that. Bad beats are part of a poker...

Let me see...blinds are 10/20, pot is 15BB. Both of you have about 125 (!!) BB behind. Going all in here means you're risking your whole stack, your whole tournament life, for a mere 15BB...and on TPTK?? I think this was a bad beat in the making. Even so, OP says in another post he wants the villain to call...and that is ok, but: 1) most opponents would call a pot bet and not an all-in. You're setting yourself up, this is a spot where I'd only call with a hand that I'm sure 99% percent that it beats yours. In most cases you're making worse hands fold, and better call. 2) that said, you can get away with betting pot at the most, and then having a way out on that sucker river. Bad bad play IMO. I don't play much MTTs, but one thing I have learned is I almost never ever go all-in that early (unless I'm holding the nuts and against an idiotic player which is guaranteed to call such an overbet)

y that i was the only one who hapenn that! Y think you play very good. Look my bad days of poker are when y have pre flop aa kk ak, always loose, Y learn to send the all in, or raise the bet of a winning hand in the turn! Only a chance scare the bad beats, but 2 cards keep the hope four them :S

The thing is that we always remember the bad beats against us, not the ones for us. Sometimes you see the flop and know immediately that there will be runner-runner for the other one and you have AA and the other one A5...That's poker

Posted by moerpho: I've stopped going all-in in MTT's unless I'm 100% sure I've got the nuts. Used to go all-in and bust earlier with hands like AA and AK but now I wait till I'm 100% sure and my results are vastly improved (as is my bankroll). Remember that in MTT's the one and only important thing is to stay alive and playing! I've seen players who were stackleaders at 1st break go bust before the 2nd break.....over and over again.....and people who look dead certain to go bust play tight and make it to final table. Bad luck will happen so don't waste all your chips early on!
