I will never live of poker since i might get bored of just grinding days in and out. If you quit your career after like 8 years and then apply for a job, it will look like you have been unemployed all the time on the papers. But you never know, if I still play and enjoy it for like 4 more years, I might give it a shot. Working where and when you want fits me well. A ski resort would do just fine Big Smile

I'm fairly new at online poker so can't talk much about the future based on that. However thru uni i managed to live comfortably by running weekend games and taking all the posh dudes money. I was a support myself student so between writing other peoples dissertations and poker i got thru without debt - not bad for 5 years. I'm now in the process of setting up home games that will get cash thru the door and hopefully get me enough dollar for land based tourneys at some of the bigger casinos. I plan to get to Pro status eventually but it's by no way a quick process so the blessing is it's a lot of fun. Yes i said fun. I'm not wealthy, i'm not a poker genius and i get crap cards and suffer bad beats but it is still crazy mad enjoyable. Profit? Win it lose it win it lose it - the life of every poker player. Thumbs Up
oh,so that's a no but i plan to someday

i would say i´m playing poker to have some more bucks in my belt, but a pro.. no i´m too fresh and my green grass isnt completly away Blink
play now standard 5$ DoN´s for 5-8hrs / week and hope they give me a + of 100$/month and hope to catch some $ in MTT
i dont align me to a great career with 5-6hrs the day ( doesnt cope to my fitness-center schedule and my work Blink ) but if i see i can earn 300-400€/month i´m gonna go to the the car-trader and fetch "my" nice 330d Touring ( and if its 500+ its a M3 Touring lol) Evil

( and if. i would move to an other county somewhere at bavaria because i can write my nick on the licence plate Big Smile or to my neighbour-county and use the license-plate AK-QJ-10 ) Worship )

U need minimum 6 months backup if u go broke. so that U can cover ur expenses for all of it for that period.

And yes, I only play poker. Don't do anything else

Dont quit ur job when u have a ''big up month''.
U need to be a winning player, and u need to have a big roll to be sure ur not going broke when u have a ''downswing'' month.

+1

As I mentioned

6 Months to cover ur ass for good as a buffer
coz U can lose 50BI on a day or month. but u need to pay bills, rent, house, cars, whatever the fook u need.

i have a friend thats just dropped out of uni jsut to play poker! he got £5k from his parents. put $300 into pkrstars and made $400 in the first day of playing! and hes 'bankroll managing' so hes only playing 10c/25c. so $400 in a day isnt bad at all at these stakes! =O and he only played for 4hours..awesome eh?

Ye indeed
I suggest your friend reads this topic And reads my reply above , over and over again... Untill he understand what the fook he has been doing.
Just make sure he doesn't cry when he lost 15BI in one day.

IF HE HAS A CHANCE TO GO BACK TO UNI, FORCE HIM TO DO IT FS
