Just edit out the very personal details such as social security number, passport number or whatever might be on the ID. Name, picture, DOB must be there.

First timers always have fear that something bad can be made with their data. I never had problems and i never heard of anyone close that have had problems by doing so or after doing so.

It is purely for verification purpose. If the poker/casino takes itself serious it will make sure that they provide a safe storage of all your personal data.
Apart from the verification purposes, and it being safe or not, by signing up and opening an account, you have agreed with their terms and conditions, which will undoubtedly include that you are to provide them with information and/or documentation requested...

I think it is safe. Because i think here are many people who already sent it and have not seen a complain about it. I will also do it soon in some time.

Posted by Drehscheibe: one question: do you guys delete this personal data after closing an account or after verifying your account?
Most poker rooms will not delete your information, just as they do not delete your account. They might close your account, but will never delete it. Your account holds valuable information, such as financial information and hand histories. They might need this information to investigate possible fraud, collusion and otherbaddy boy things you could have done (or could have been part of without even knowing it). That's why they will probably keep this on file for an x amount of years.
It is just to guarantee that they can investigate these issues and secure the integrity of their sites...
