More then one month without real poker. Russian government excluded poker from sports list. Now Russian poker players go underground. No official tournaments. Only one option left - on-line poker.

Thats sad!
I know my own government is kind of twisted, because in one way they say Poker is gambling/hasard and therefore should be banned - on the hand they say you have to pay taxes.
If Poker is considered strictly gambling why is it not tax free like any other casino wins?
I suppose in Russia they are even more strict - hopefully it will change in the future

Live poker was probably too fun and social to be allowed in russia ... sit home in front of your computers and drink vodka, or play chess wich is 0 % social .

Sorry to hear that, I have had some good games with Russian players online though so glad that is still ok
On the other hand I wish they would ban the French from online ( lolj/k or am I ).
Today the head of Russian Senate Sergey Mironov spoke of necessity to order internet providers to block access to online casinos and poker sites for Russians. Idiots!!! What am I supposed to do if they fulfill this threat? Should I cash out right now? Just in case. Idiots!!! Idiots!!! Idiots!!! Admin, I'll post a link to this news for Russian BRM members. OK? http://www.rbc.ru/rbcfreenews.shtml?/20091106125540.shtml
He spoke so after Berlusconi ( ) visitinf Putin last weeks... Don't really understand what's the problem. In Italy is allowed to play MTT and stngo's only ( no cash ) and there is a list of rooms authorize for playing. But your situation is worst I think you'd better to cash out....
Posted by fejset: Maybe they shoul illegal vodka instead,, Hmm,,,
I'll go for it. I am more a beer user anyway... I figured I will not rush to cash out and will keep on playing as long as I can. In case they do block access, I will cash out when I visit abroad.

If these poker sites decide to block russian users, which I don't think they will unless obligated by law, then surely they have to warn them all first and tell them to withdraw their money. They can't legally close down and empty their accounts because they play from Russia and it would be morally wrong to block them without a public explanation. There would be outrage from players around the world and it wouldn't make them very popular.
I do not understand countries with anti-gambling laws, let alone anti-poker laws. It's mad to make gambling illegal when there are more addictive and more destructive things that are legal. And if poker is illegal because of the "gambling element" then there are countless things which should be banned. As I've said before, by their logic you should ban buying shares in the stock-market. Or ban business altogether since starting up a new business is always a gamble and if you're not very good at it you can lose your house. These governments should wake up to the fact that poker is just another risky way of making money and it's far better to keep it above ground and regulated than drive it out of the legal economy.

awood, you got it a bit wrong. The plan of our senators is not to make poker rooms block accounts of Russian players but to make Russian internet providers block access to these poker rooms.

Oh i see. Sorry I didn't read it properly and just assumed that was what it said. Not much the players or the sites can do if internet providers do this I spose. Then again, the first provider to block these sites is going to lose a lot of business as surely ppl will switch provider.
