Who plays satellites ?  0
I was wondering who plays satellites because I always figure, the prize pool is never higher than all the entry fee's. So all it does is limit the options as to how you can spend your winnings..

So if a small stakes player satellites their way up from a $1 entry to a buy-in worth $1K, if their bankroll was only $50. Wouldn't they rather have the $1K than entry into that tourney ?? Or to say it otherway's, if you only had $1050, would you spend $1k of it on a single tourney ???

I play satellites regularly because it offers me the chance to play tournaments which were otherwise way to costly for my bankroll. If you are not interested to play the tournament into which you have won a ticket you can unregister and get Tournament Dollars T$ (with Pokerstars and FullTilt for example) and use them for cheaper tournaments. You can also sell your T$ eithet with FullTilt directly or with some other services (google sell T$) and get real money.

Thus, with a small bankroll I can recommend to play satellites.

I agree with you, so I don't pay to play satellites.
But I play those I get a free ticket to.

That's a good reason to play satellites Xyran, never thought of it that way. Always saw the $1 satellites as one big donk fest. Cool idea tho

That still has no real value over just playing the exact same tourney for real $$ instead of tourney $$

And not all sites have a system like that, some sites, PKR for example, best you can do is unregister if it's a reg tourney and receive a ticket for the exact same tourney to use at another date..

On many sites, all it does is force you to use your winnings on a specific game, instead of leaving your options open.

The only sat's I see as being worth it is if there's a guaranteed prize (entry) and all the entries into the sat is equal to a lesser value than the actual entry(prize), in which case, winning the entry has more value than winning a lesser amount of cash.

Or sat's which are free to enter or require a certain amount of loyalty points to enter or something, in which case, there's no alternative with a standard prize pool, or cash equiv.

I don't like the satellites because for me is better to win money for the main tournament. Maybe I'm wrong?! Blink

I think there is a misunderstanding here. I only know the situation with PokerStars and FullTilt and in both cases you can unregister and sell your T$ for real $ which you can use for cash game or even for cash out. I dont recomend to sell T$ and then use the $ you get to play the tournament. I personally often use my T$ with Pokerstars to play their double or nothing sit and gos; this way you can convert T$ into real $ which can be used for cash game or cash out. In the last years I have won some tickets for Sunday Million on PS and have often used the T$ 215 for sit and gos etc.

I personally do not know the rules with PKR but what you wrote would also convince me only to play satellites for tournaments I really would like to play.

I still think satellites are a good idea to win a ticket into some high price tournament which you otherwise would not buy. At least it gives you the option to play for some big money lol.

I hope this clarifies my first email.

I play only the SitnGos satellites like the 9 players max $2 SitnGo in which the top 3 win a $5.50 entry to the super satellite for the Double Deuce at FTP... these kind of SitnGos satellites are really worthy imo than the MTTs ones. But indeed I'm the kind of player which is always going to unregister in case of winning a seat through... into a big MTT because of the small bankroll I have.
