I don't think it matters if the account is play money. though I'm not sure the rules apply for every site. On most sites there is no such thing as a "play money" account cos you were able to deposit if you wanted and could probly play freerolls. Just because there's no money in the account doesn't mean it's not the same rules.
However, I remember I had two "play money" accounts on party and they did not notice until I tried to deposit. Then they made me close one account and transferred the deposit over. I deposited in the second account because I was offered a first deposit bonus but I think I then lost this when I closed one account. So even if you can create a new account they might not let you have the no deposit bonus. Ask admin to make sure

First time I ever tried to receive a no deposit bonus was via another website and on Full TILT
I had a play money FTP account (and it is a true play money acocunt, it even runs on different software, downloaded from their .org server) and this play money account caused me to get my FTP account(s) frozen plus have my membership at the other website also frozen. I was able to (via many emails) get all this sorted, I still never received the no deposit bonus for full tilt, but was granted it at an alternative poker room where I had no account.
And all this, because in the web sites T&Cs it says only void if you have a REAL MONEY account. Which to me meant, play money ok, since they could have just said "account" not "real money account"
As it was, any type of account voided the promo..
So I say be careful and probably stick to sites you have no account what-so-ever at

"If you already have an account (playmoney/realmoney) with (insert poker room name), then you are wasting both yours and our time by creating a bonus request! "
this is at the bottom of all the request pages so all you really need to do is read brm's t&c
