WSOP: Over 800 players missed out on the Main Event

Over 800 players had to take their $10,000 buy-in and walk back home today when they tried to sign up for the main event. This because all the starting lists were full and the crew behind the tournament had to close the registration.

Many disappointed poker players missed out on the main event in 2009 World Series of Poker. Some of them had been taking it easy and just waited until the very last day to take part in the main event, when others couldn't make it until the last day. Unfortunately for all of them were that the main event starting lists became full very fast and they had to take their buy-in and turn back home. One of the players that didn't manage to get a seat in the main event this year was the high stakes pro Patrik Antonius from Finland.

What would you do with your buy-in of $10,000 if you went to Vegas to play in the Main Event but didn't get a seat?

PatriK Antonius is out? When I start reading this news i thought this were those players who just came up in the end. And i thought stars would have their places safe but it seems that is not true. This only shows that each time there will be more players trying to enter big events, because poker is each time calling for more people from around the world to the WSOP!

I would just head over to the casino and sit down in the cash games. They are crazy around this time of year in Vegas. I lived there for last years Main Event...So many cash games that you can really make better money playing in those rather than buy-in to a long shot tournament like the main event.

LOL ! I bet a Finn would get to the final table ... 20x the money that was bet and now antonius is gone ... *sigh* it all would be so easy if you had a little bit under average luck.

Thats exactly what I thought too.
In my opinion, all Pros should recieve an invitation to the bigger tournaments, so no one can miss the buy-in, like PA did. I mean, WTF, the main event without the known players isnt the same...

it's their own fault for leaving the registration till the last minute.
lets face it most of them have been there since day 1

Their own fault. Just play on day 1a. That had had only half(!) the players of day 1d.

Yeah it is really stupid a poker player pro like patrick antonius not participating in this great competition. But what happens once more proves that poker is growing and that World Series of Poker continues to be the greatest poker event in the world!
