Gus Hansen has lost $2.9 million this year

Tags: denmark, full tilt, Gus Hansen, poker.
Posted on 24 September 2009 by "T".

Gus "The Great Dane" Hansen has won millions of dollars during his poker career. He has won all these money from playing the biggest tournaments and at the highest cash game tables (both online and live) there are, against the best poker players in the world. Gus Hansen's poker career has been great with other words. But as we all know, playing at the highest stakes is not always a bunch of roses.

Gus Hansen has really got to experience it this year as his bankroll has decreased with around 2.9 million US dollars. But even though he has lost so much money this year, the most people following his poker career are certain that he will start winning soon again. It's just a matter of time according to them. It's hard to disagree with them as this is not the first time he has lost big amounts of money.

$2.9 million including the 1.4million tennis bet?
 racpxt24/09/2009 15:31:06 GMT
Probably not. Recently I saw a link showing his progress during this year and he was already below -$2M. I thougt it was highstakesdb, but can't find it there.

The more interesting thing is that he was near $3M up at the end of the firs trimester, which makes it a -$5M downswing.

it's more easy to lose such hugh amount of money than to win it !
 shokaku24/09/2009 16:38:13 GMT
Funny thing is, he was up quite a lot early this year.

But he started to bleed money in the last few month. Time for a big tourney win.

I had read that he was playing in lower stakes at FullTilt currently. If he keeps losing money I can't just believe this is a downsing. He must have changed somenthing in his game.
I don't kow how much money have these kind of poker's pro as their bankroll but i hope, for his career, he could get out from this and keeps playing poker at the high stakes limits.

Yeah, I just can't imagine high stakes poker games without Hansen playing some hands... I just don't want to see only durrrr's or Ivey's faces there...

The odds were not profitable, so why would u bet on it at all?
I don't even understand how someone with his knowledge, can bet on such a crap win to lose ratio. Confused

What were the odds? I just knew Rafal Nadal was a big favourite cause he never lost in like 5 years at the French open.

i'm sure he'll bounce back in near future and win back all the money he lost like he did earlier. maybe he can take a break for some time, that'll help him
 najs26/09/2009 21:22:22 GMT
that's high time to start making not loosing money.

He's a great player and everything depends on his strategy. He must change somthing in his current game
 xxxbchxxx27/09/2009 10:17:15 GMT

I wonder how much he lost on rake over the years
 Lutenatik05/10/2009 01:27:43 GMT
I saw him playing today at FTP HU against Phil Ivey and things weren't going very well Tongue

------------
It's sad cuz i really like to watch him playing. He's definetly a good player just going through a looonnng down swing i guess
 Y2k8705/10/2009 02:41:05 GMT
theres a vid on youtube where he talks about his downswing but he says since hes been in australia hes got nearly all of the 3mil back he has lost over the last couple of months
 Fakiry07/10/2009 12:32:22 GMT
This mark can't be something Gus is proud of, but i am sure he will make to turn things up again. The real good players are like the cats: they always land with head up!
 NANACONDA23/10/2009 11:41:09 GMT
I'd nearly go as far as to say that he's past it at this stage. He's not able to keep up with durrr ivey and the likes and He's certainly nowhere near as good as Patrik Antonius. I think his egos got the better of him and don't think he'll have a profitable year for a long while yet if ever again.
 MANUEDO23/10/2009 12:09:22 GMT
Mamma miaaaa
How can you stay calm and relaxed after so huge loss ?
Unbelieveble
