On October 17, Monday, a miscommunication between two casino robbery suspects led to their arrests. Ashley Marie Hinker, age 33, and Donald Ray Goings, age 39, both residents of Sioux Falls, were arrested for first-degree robbery. Ashley was also charged with possession of illegal drugs and paraphernalia after police found marijuana and meth on her.
At about 9:30am, Ashley walked into Crown Casino located at 904 South Cliff Avenue, spoke to a clerk and went inside the restroom. While in there, Donald walked in, demanded cash from the clerk and fled.
Public information officer Sam Clemens said the two were partners in crime. Police discovered that Ashley went inside mainly to scout the area and texted Donald informing him that the clerk was all alone. However, when she found out her car was missing, she reported to the police officers at the scene that her car was stolen.
Right after the car was located along South Blaine Avenue, investigators deduced that Donald took her car in confusion, and it was not part of the plan.
Sam Clemens said, "Detectives did a great job investigating this and putting those pieces together. That's really what led to solving this, is that they were able to find the inconsistencies."
