thats pretty cool, glad i watched a thing about black holes last week so i at least have a tiny tiny understanding of what was happening otherwise i would have just thought cool looking space thing

So that over the net news last night and watched it five times in a row. Its something absolutely amazing. And they said that the estimated distance between the star and the black hole was about the same like Earth's from Sun so you can imagine the power !!!
At distance they're not different from any other massive object, in that there is a gravitational pull, but no real "sucking action"...
I'm of the opinion that you can't suck in the vacuum of space (not in the literal sense anyway, I do actually know someone that would suck even in a vacuum).
I'm not sure though, that once an object is sufficiently close to lose its mass into the black hole, that there is some suction involved also.
This effect though, surely would be negligible compared to the gravitational pull...?

its a good job earth is too far away from the milky ways black hole wouldnt fancy being sucked into oblivion. lol there is some truely amazing things in the universe. saturn is a 'WOW' through a telescope and there's some nice star clusters out there too. if you ever have a clear night take some time out from poker and get a telescope or some bino's out. its pretty impressive
