I apologise ahead of time if anyone had friends or family in this incident, but I thought it was too funny not to post.

Pretty much all humour is in poor taste, that's the nature of it. That's pretty much the whole idea of humour - to laugh about something that is otherwise unfortunate.

The whole 'you shouldn't joke about that because somebody may be personally affected by it' pretty much means you shouldn't ever joke about anything, otherwise you're a hypocrite. I prefer South Parks take on it - joke about everything so you're NOT a hypocrite, rather than drawing a line and saying what is and isn't OK. Just have a sense of humour.

Personally -I'm a very ethical person - but I know how to have a laugh about a bad situation too.

Can't say that I laughed but nor was I offended.

It was very brave/slightly stupid to post this considering how recent the incident is and how likely someone is going to be offended.

I wouldn't say I support censorship for the sake of not causing offense but to me this seems to only cause offense and the comedy value doesn't justify the upset this might cause. Especially seeing as you're posting this into a public forum where anyone could see it and you don't know the background of those reading it. It would be different if you were passing it around your close friends.

i do have a sense of humour.
i must admit that i find other peoples misfortune funny, like when people fall over or for instance a few years ago i seen an old man get splashed by car going through a big puddle and i nearly crashed my van laughing.
i still laugh about it today but he didnt get shot and killed by a fooking stupid idiot with head problems did he? and thats the big difference.
im not a hypocrite if i find someone tripping over or getting splashed with puddles funny and then taking offence to people thinking murder is funny.
its VERY different.

sure.. when you put it like that.. But the fact is to say one misfortune is funny and another isn't is to draw a line.. you've shown two examples at opposite ends of the spectrum and completely avoided my point. You need to draw a line in order for what you're saying to make sense.

This I agree with - Which is why I didn't repost this to my facebook.

But the picture is definitely funny.

Not even funny in the slightest IMO. I agree with jess about the south park stuff, but this is more like family guy type humour.

At least somebody can laugh at the humourous creativity of whoever photoshopped this image.
Had me cracking up. Big Smile

I knew there would be a few "moral crusaders" feeling the need to take a self-appointed "moral high ground", but it really is very funny.

About the: "It was very brave/slightly stupid to post this considering how recent the incident is and how likely someone is going to be offended" thingy...

How recent?
So I guess there is a certain time limit you need to respect before you can post jokes about dramatic incidents, like 911 etc.
My question: what's the time limit? how many days? .....well?

2. how likely that somebody will be offended: Nearly 0 !
Almost no americans active on this forum, and the few that are, what is the likelyhood that they "knew" somebody in the theatre or even connected in the 10th degree is practically 0 as well.

It was a horrible incident. Of course.
The picture is funny. Yes it is.

That's all there is folks! The rest is useless moral crusading for your own personal benefit. Period.
For those who do not feel this need, enjoy the joke, because that's all it is.
And so is B1gfoot's response. Funny. Thumbs Up

i don't find this funny at all,
i think it is just plain sick,i mean that poor girl who missed death a few weeks previously when she was in a shopping mall, she must have thought "god i was lucky there",so she then goes to the cinema and gets gunned down, tragic that's what it is,and some people find it funny Sad

jesse and jack would it be so funny if it was you're sister or you're mother???
would you still be laughing at the picture???

I'm not being a 'moral crusader' I just think it's a bad joke. I know bad jokes can be the best but in this one, the punchline doesn't make sense. I get what the punchline is getting at but its kinda retarded. I haven't seen the film yet, but I don't think that is a spoiler. So its more a bad attempt at a joke rather than funny.

Of course not, not yet any way- but direct family relations are pretty unlikely to be part of the audience. And once again - you can make that same argument about nearly all humour. That really is the nature of humour.

Yeah, you're right Jack.

I do agree with Awood as well - but I must admit, the main reason I didn't post to my facebook wasn't because i was afraid of offending somebody - more that I knew I wouldn't let it slide and I'd end up defriending anyone who kicked up a fuss.

"My question: what's the time limit? how many days? .....well?" Thats the exact same point I was trying to make about subject matter - and drawing lines about what is 'OK' subject matter for a joke.

Personally - I find it more offensive when people DO draw lines about what is 'OK' for humour - I actually find that a little creepy, seriously.

------------
Also - people make jokes about stuff like parallels between football players prayers being answered while the prayers of starving African children are ignored, complete with photo of emaciated black child - surely this would be far more offensive - given the sheer scale of the death and indifference, not to mention ongoing suffering involved in that context. And yet - there's always far less outrage at those 'memes' than posting something like this. Same with 911.

IMHO those that can joke about disasters that happened to white people, that didn't DIRECTLY effect them, probably just have a little more perspective than those who can't.

Not Funny and actually thought you had more morals and values. To laugh about this is to think about the day your mother died and laugh about that!

Administration shouldn't even allow such trash to be posted. This is a poker forum and to make fun of any death by a random attack on innocent people is terrible.

And for the Iraq war! I don't see funnies about the people dying! Anyone smiles about this will think about it when a tragedy comes your way! Sad Thumbs Down

If you really give a s**t - then you should maybe campaign about your countries ridiculous attitude towards gun-laws (OMG DON'T TAKE AWAY MY FREEDOOOOOOM!) rather than campaign against a sense of humour.

ROFL dude ! bigfoot you owe me a knew kneecap, which i smashed on my table Big Smile

i was reading this thread and thinking: "normaly its ok to make fun about tragedys, because thats also a psychological way to get along with such awfull things, but its a bad taste because its a recent incident..." and then i read your comment lmfao.

some might say its impiously but...look around.. its the nature of humour, theres always one side who suffers. no matter if its about fat people or someone who died...
you shouldnt let everything get close to you, else you gotta cry every single second about whats happening on this earth. there should be space for humor..
