Hi all. My son and my nephew were born a month apart nine years ago, however my nephew has autism and the difference between them as they grow older becomes bigger and bigger. My brother was able to get him into a special day program a few years ago, and the improvements in him have been astounding.
Last night the TV was on as I surfed the net, and a Canadian program called "The Nature of Things" came on, and as it was about advances in autism research it really made me take notice. The video is unfortunately not available outside of Canada, although I did see one part of it available on Youtube. Apparently researchers are finding that the origins of autism might be in the guts of these kids, and a natural bacteria which releases neuro-toxins into the bloodstream, and how and why this bacteria multiplies in children with autism. If you have young kids you should really inform yourself. It really made me wonder if we didn't curb off my son getting autism by raising him at home instead of putting him in a daycare - especially as he did display some early precursors of autism. Worth the time IMO:
