Last month i went with the wife and kids to a little island here in croatia for some quality time away from the city, cars and all that crap i have to deal with all year long... well... long story short... i found this stone at the sea shore. At first i was all happy thinking i found a freaking meteorite lol but then after some research on the web i kinda figured out it isnt
So my question is: What the hell is it? Any Geologist mobsters around that ever saw something like it? Its quite heavy but not much more than a normal stone and i can see it has rusted metal on it. its looks like it was under some high temperature coz a little chip broke out on the side and it looks like dark and glassy inside.
Might be volcanic... hey Maggat... throwing any stones to this side lately? If u did this one took quite a flight lol

If I remember my classes in chemistry at school, lava formed rocks are igneous rocks and they have crystals on them. They also tend to be light in weight cos of the air inside them.

about the flight...well I am affected by a side effect of the wild masturbation to which I undergo everyday and it helped me a lot in trowing the stone.

Yeah that is true so based on that and that the rock thingie is as heavy as a normal rock my guess would be that it's just a usual rock that somehow got in contact with some metal and got some of the rust on it.

Used to do a bit of rock collecting, but by far no geologist. I believe it's volcanic rock though. There's alot of it around the world and smaller pieces can get washed up from the lower basins of our oceans and seas. What would be cool is to research the possibilities of where it could have evolved from. i mean is the island itself an old volcano or were any around the area many years ago. Say a million or so!
Don't think so just because of it's weight. should have placed a ruler next to so u could see better what i mean. the stone is around 6cm by 4cm and 2cm thick and still weights exactly 150g which is a lot in comparison with some other peddles i was comparing it to. Also it feels smooth to touch but that could be erosion i guess.
@Green the island is most definitely not volcanic. there's even a lot of snail fossils and other creatures like so on the rock cliffs all around so i think its like so for a very long time.
Have you tried placing a magnet close to the stone...from what your saying weight wise there could be high iron ore content...that cud account for the weight and reddish color as well.

Yep. didn't stick to it.Either it does not have enough iron in it or its not a strong enough magnet.
