I'm really looking forward to see what kind of participation this event of WPT will actually have.

I must admit that online i think i only saw couple of players from South Africa, lets hope that live the participation will be better.

I think that tax of $300 better go to poor people from Africa, they can live a lot with that money... they live few days with $1 ... WPT can do charity acts ?

Yes I've actually played an individual on Carbon that derives out of South Africa. I've managed to come across him twice I believe and was astonished to see a player from that part of the world.

It's funny how people think entire africa is all poor...
The population is over a billion so there are plenty of rich people to play poker aswell.

i guess wpt have to "break new ground" all the time just to keep their business running, today there is a whole lot of tournaments, series, one shots being organized all around the world, and when you find a place where there is a lack of tourneys you jump in immediately before your competition does. bla bla bla

It will be the first time in this coutry, so participation may not be as big as in other places, but i believe it will have many south africans playing. It's a country with a big diversity in cultural terms, but there are lots of "stacked" people who, i believe, may have already got the vice (the healthy one) of the game through the net. If they have the chance of meeting some well known pros, it will give advantage in the advertising of the event and also of the game in general.

In every country there are rich and poor.
And Africa as a Continent has lots and lots of resources.
No need to say about this. But indeed many african countries need help in any form,
since basic things like water isnt even available.
So every bit of a charity helps.

Another example of poker taking over the world, or is it the world taking over poker? whichever way round it is, poker has tapped into a worldwide market and where there is mney to be spent here is mone to be made so SouthvAfrica is as good as anywhere. Be nice to get their!

Yesterday's second starting day in Johannesburg attracted a total field of 148 players. With a number of famous faces taking to the felt for the WPT's inaugural South African tournament the action was fast-paced from the start.

Indeed, by the end of the day just 80 players remained, taking the total number of runners who will return today for Day 2 to 114.
However, for all their efforts, the remaining players were all left trailing Sunil Devachandor who finished the day on 215,800 chips.

The 21-year-old already has an impressive resume including an LAPT championship, plus a WSOP bracelet from earlier this summer in Vegas. He has over $2 million in live tournament earnings.
230 players entered the $3,600 Main Event and now just six remain to fight it out for the $206,153 first prize.
