I was wondering if you could add a chat room feature onto the site. I think it would be GREAT if I could go into a chat room and have actual live, real time conversations with my fellow mobsters.
Have you considered this feature? I used to love the old BBS days when a couple dozen members would just sit in a chat room for hours and talk about games and stuff.

@ Ronin Harper - Why don't you create a poll ? So that an estimate can be done who wants it and who doesn't so that it helps to approach the Admin by giving him stats and the final decision could be left to him .
By the way chat room is a great idea , it surely will succeed in a better way of communication . I vote too

Chat room will be nice option... but I think that the number of posts in the forum will dramatically decrease - because why we would post on the forum if we will have chat?

It could be interesting, sometimes it would be useful to arrange meetings at the tables and stuff like that. But that could also give place to exchanging too much personal information. We wouldn’t be sharing nothing special of our own at that chat, but someone could think of using it to talk with other mobsters while playing at the same tables, and that could bring problems to the BRM without having direct fault about it, but being the way the players used to apply collusion would be very bad for the community. This could be avoid if there was someone accessing all the chat. This happens in the forum, comments are read and some are blocked, but doing the same in a chat should be harder…

If you do not want chat room,what do you have against private message option?Collusion can be made through others chat rooms ,instant messaging or by phone. Good luck stopping crime over enthernet

Chatroom could be good admin you should think about it again That "chat thread" is lame And I dont think so that posts in forum will be dramatically decreased.. Cause there is still 50 mobpoints daily for posting, you know

I remember back in the day when one of our Mobsters from the past created a site which had live chat support and we had some good times. One of them was BMWman and I remember Hoodi used to get involved, but can't remember who actually constructed the site.
Not that I want another site to go to just for the purpose of chatting live, but it is a lot of fun.
We don't want a chat room because it's going to be "wild west" in terms of spamming etc since we have no way of monitoring it live.
Not necessarily true. If you integrated an IRC based chat room, there's lot's of ways to ensure it's relatively, if not completely spam free. It's really easy to run IRC scripts to ban/mute spammers, and there's already tonnes of scripts already available. Best of all, integrating an IRC client directly into the website is relatively easy.

While the basic principle is a good one the problem is the potential for grief caused by various unscrupulous individuals or organisations who would not treat it with the respect us BRM'ers would expect and also Admin have given it a big NO
