Hi!
I would like to try out using a HUD. I've got no experience with HUDs so I was just wondering if you might have any suggestions for FREE HUDs. I know I would get a better software if I pay for it but I'd like to start with getting comfortable using a HUD before making an investment and buy one.

You can try FPDB. It's a free and open source program. Not as polished as the commercial ones but for a beginner in those programs it should do the job perfectly. And it's not that difficult to install either.

not sure if you should go for free programs- yeah they might do the job, but can you trust them? i mean you get it for free- and this is not photo editing software- you are giving it permission to far more sensitive data...imo just stick with commercial programs- trials are the way to go at first, you might even decide after trialling, that you don't need it at all

Posted by Macubaas: pochui is right, there were so many cases lately of free stuff that also contains trojan viruses
Interestingly - when I downloaded HEM-2 I got it from a third-party source, can't remember why exactly, but that's not relevant. I had also recently uninstalled my Anti Virus program due to some issue it was causing and hadn't got around to reloading it yet.
So in short, the copy of HEM-2 I downloaded DID have a trojan attached. Same day I reformatted my PC, changed all my passwords, reloaded my AV and then downloaded HEM-2 again from the official page!
------------ Oh - I also had to change cancel my VISA card, since I had used that shortly after the original download to purchase a license for it. That was a pain in the ass.

Never used it. I just bought HEM2 for HH analysis and such, I bought Leak Buster along with it. But to be honest, I've hardly used any of it - but I've never used the HUD. Mostly because I had been playing on PKR which it (HUD) doesn't support.
However, now that I am playing on stars, I'll probably start using the HUD soon.. I was going to the other day actually, then I found out stars doesn't save your HH locally by default ! LOL wtf! So I have basically no data yet anyway.. But I've started saving the HH now, so I'll probably start using the HUD soon too.
