IBM... always seem to be on the leading edge. Be interesting to see what they come up with next. Smile

Few days old but GOLD!
IBM is pushing it to the limit.
Nanotechnology is the future, and its nearby.
This is just a demonstration of the application itself in a decorative way.
But the influence it will have in our daily lives will be immense.
Changing matter from moving atoms implies you can change the positions of the atoms, the surface, the adsorbates,... for the behalf of the industry, governments, people etc.
Furthermore it will be used for medical treatments like building tiny tools that can enter the body to facilitate multiple infections f.e.
It's what I'm going to study in my master: bionanotechnology. Can't wait Big Smile

It's fun, I'll give it that. As for scientific content, this seems like old news to me.
I remember that I found it pretty impressive back in 1990 when they first spelled the IBM logo in Xenon atoms.
As far as I can tell, this is the same thing combined with stop-motion animation, and a lot of patience...

I would be so much more impressed if they could actually construct molecules this way, i.e. a printer that can print complex molecular structures. That would be sweet...

I saw that on the news the other day,..... Quite impressive stuff...! It's incredible the minds some folks have to come up with this stuff....

As for marqis's comment about the printer thing,.... I guess some young computer genius in the U.S. has made the world's first 3D printer hand gun that actually works....

It's got law enforcement's and legislator's panties in a bunch as now ANYONE could easily own a handgun unbeknownst to everybody...

Don't really like THAT idea.... Confused
