Creating Websites  0
Do anyone here have any experience when it comes to creating websites? I recently started on a new website and I immediately felt that it's been way too long since I last did one. I can't even remember the simplest of things Confused

For example: I'm using a '3 column fixed, header and footer' layout of the website. Now, my menu is in the left column and it's located pretty much as high up as it can possibly be. I can't for the life of me remember how to move that down a bit so it won't be in direct contact with my header... Any ideas?

------------
Never mind, I decided to go with a 'tabbed panel' as a menu instead Big Smile

I've just started a company making websites and other media for small companies.

The funny thing is I'm not even 100% sure I know what you're talking about, and yet I have a masters degree with a module on web design. It's a good thing my clients probably won't have much clue when it comes to the web and I can get away with something that looks reasonable.

Personally I wouldn't over-complicate a simple design. I'd code what I wanted for a header, preferably a single image, put in a break and add a table with three columns. Easy. You can edit the table attributes so it doesn't look like a table and get something that looks like BRM but with a menu where the left block of adds are.

I should point out that I don't know what I'm talking about (even more so after half a dozen pints) and my websites are quite basic. But I would advise using some editing software. You can software for free that switches between html and free design. My hosting provider does one that's very simplistic but I can add things with code and it almost auto corrects my mistakes or I can change things without scrambling through the code.

The problem I had was that my header (which is indeed an image) is looking like I want it to, but then in my left column where the menu were supposed to be, the top selection of the menu were actually touching the header. I tried everything I could come up with including changing the size of the header and, desperate as I was, I even tried the simple code <p> with no success.

I'm using Adobe Dreamweaver to create my websites and it's pretty straight forward but some things you have to edit on your own and that's one of those things. I haven't had a problem with it in the past but now for some reason I just can't figure out what to do...

Oh I see. If I remember from my dreamweaver days there is a button to add a break or failing that the code <br /> should work. The <p> marks the start and end of a paragraph but I have seen something like <p>&nbsp;</p> used to make a space.
