Jody Garaventa, a 33-year old poker professional form North Carolina managed to turn his $10.000 stake into $300.000 by taking down the first price in the World Series of Golf in Las Vagas.
The WSOG have been held for a couple of years now and it is growing more and more for every year that it is held. Even though this is a golf tournament it resembles poker in many ways. The thing that resembles poker the most is the betting structure which is the exact same as in poker with chech, fold and raise options.
Graventa is an 11-handicap player and he took down the championship after beating Kevin Dumont who is a 3-handicapper. In a straight up golf tournament an 11-handicapper would not stand much of a chance against a 3-handicapper but with this tournament structure it evens out.
Dumont was awarded with $100.000 for his second place finish.
In the WSOG of 2009 a total of 125 players participated and a lot of famous poker professionals took part.
