Phil Ivey wins Event #8

Event #8 of the 2009 WSOP was a Deuce to Seven Draw Lowball tournament. Once it came down to the final day there were only seven players remaining in this tournament, and one of them was no other than Team FullTilt member Phil Ivey. At the start of the day Phil Ivey found himself in 6th place with 110.000 in chips. But after just a couple of hands he found himself being on his way out of the tourmanet as he dropped down to 65.000 in chips very quickly.

But after a couple of lucky hands against Raphael Zimmerman he managed to fight his way up to 400.000 in chips and was now in the chip lead after having eliminated Zimmerman in 6th place.

When it came down to heads up play it was only Ivey and John Monnette left in the tourmanent who was going to fight it out for the bracelet and the $96.361 first prize. It is probably safe to assume that Phil Ivey didn't care much about the $96.000 first price but the bracelet was probably more attractive to him.

After beating Monnette in the heads up match Ivey took down his sixth bracelet which puts him in the top 10 WSOP players ever.

But he still has a long way to go before he can pass Phil Hellmuth with his 11 bracelets in that list. But one day he will probably do it.

The Great Phil Ivey wooooo, I was shocked too because it's not really his specialty that event and he also was not even in the top 5 when they were 8 players down I think. Wow congrats Worship

Another Pokerstars promise climbing his way till the WSOP top ten bracelets. Being almost loosing in the final table and build the bank again from the start to finish winning the game should be a fantastic feeling. In this year's event many records are being beatten and many newbyes are showing up: poker world will suffer big changes when WSOP is over.

Sorry i called Ivey a Team Pokerstars member, i mean a Fulltilt member (who is already the face of every Fultilt publicity on the net). Sorry if hurted someone's feelings....

Wow! Phil Ivey continues to prove everybody that he is an excellent player. One more bracellet to his collection, I think that the prize for him dont mean much he wins more than that in a night playing high stakes in full tilt! Tongue

How many players played in it? Must have been like a 100 but still a nice win Smile

How many WSOP tournaments do the pros play in a year?

2-7 is not one of the popular games, so only a field of 147 players.

I just love the style of Ivey. He looks like there is something seriously wrong with him when he sits looking left-right-left-right-left-right and then makes the right descision. Bet he has a photographic memory to. And bad social skills.

Ya, not many players. I checked and there's 57 WSOP tournaments for 2009, do you know why so many? I think there should only be 7-8, one bracelet for 8 most popular games. They're giving out too many bracelets I think Smile

57 bracelets this year? Wow
I think its fine, there are so many diffirent games and limits.
And if there only like 5 a year my changes off winning 1 wud be very small Blink

And the next one.

Ivey just won event 25. A mixture of Omaha and Stud. Both games as hi/lo.

He stands at seven bracelets now.

Will Ivey ever win a bracelet in a NLHM event - none so far.

Apparently he entered the 2-7 event so he could " learn the game " - he learns fast!
