The tragic story about the Danish Poker Pro who lost it all

The Danish Poker Pro Peter "Zupp" Jepsen had everything the most poker players could ever dream of - money, sponsorships, investments and a beloved girlfriend. However, during 2009, his life took a fast u-turn and suddenly everything went wrong. It all started with that he didn't win money in a single tournament and that he couldn't win a single big pot in the cash games he played in. On top of that, his investments didn't pay off at all and the friends he had lend money to couldn't pay him back. Peter "Zupp" Jepsen was dead broke after this and couldn't even afford to buy himself an ice-cream.

Unfortunately this was just the beginning as he was about to lose his health and the "love of his life".....

When he thought things couldn't get worse, he got the swine flue. And as soon as he had recovered -- he broke his foot. He got chronic inflammation in his fingers and returning headache as well. After this, his girlfriend, the love of his life, left him. A man who once had everything a human being could ask for had lost it all.

"The crossing I'm standing at doesn't offer an easy way out. There is a gun and a bank on my left and a rope and a coffin on my right. Straight ahead of me there is an endless desert."; Peter Jepsen says in an interview with a poker magazine.

This is sad, but also a lesson to all players out there who aren't performing good bankroll management. Do not invest your money in so called friends who aren't able to pay you back.

Its always sad to read a story like this. A man who decided to bet is future on a sport and then things go wrong. Its like watching a footballer breaking a leg. But at least the footballer only stops earning, and poker pros spent it all.

Do I deserve to say that this just CANT happen. Are there no good people in the world anymore? If someguy will loose his money like this, friends or gilrfriends could help them dont they? Report it to some kind of clinics, make transfers so he wont play for all the money you got. Its sad that something like this CAN happen, and its just badluck that Zupp is paying the price for this system.

lol ... just one of many who have had their life destroyed by poker. If you are stupid enough to loan big amounts of money to your "friends" then you deserve to lose it all ... i would suggest the gun and bank so we would see some action.

hhmm we all need to change our profession sometimes, so why do the same rule not apply to "poker pros" ?

It's a very sad story; to lose all you won playing games it's a risk you have to consider when begin and happens to choose bad friends too.
But health is the most important thing and I really mind for him; then, do you want to add some words about his (ex) girlfriend behaviour ?

Damn it ... Sad really ..
 LaBaiz20/03/2010 21:34:34 GMT
wow, that is pretty sad story, but in these time to lend money to friends it is very risky. Hopefully he will get back on track of his life.

 pmgignac22/03/2010 11:48:25 GMT

but in my book ....

for the badluck in poker: probably he just isn't as good as he thought, a winningplayer doesn't stay a winningplayer forever, so saying its badluck is just a excuse.

for the investments: ever heard of financial crisis? he is not the only one who lost a fortune, and if you alreay have the financial risk of playing poker you should find safe ways of investments.

for the health: swine flu isn't that dangerous, breaking a foot? are you kidding? i broke my foot, arm and leg before i was 18. and what should the people say who got cancer? so don't cry about a little pain

for friends and love: well he seems to have had no real friends. if you are rich there will always be people who just care for your money, i guess he should have relied on his real friends who knew him before he was rich.
well and his love? the love of his life left him when he was broke...yeah great choice

there are people who had more badluck and for me it seems it wasn't really badluck in this case. ohh and hey, he HAD a great time, more than most other poor people could hope for
