Poker Hall of Fame Announcement

Poker Hall of Fame recently announced that Eric Drache and Brian 'Sailor' Roberts are the 2012's inductees. There will be an official cermony held at the Rio in Las Vegas just before the final table of the WSOP main event kicks off on October 30th!

Brian “Sailor” Roberts earned his nickname from serving in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. As a poker player he travelled alongside Doyle Brunson and Amarillo Slim. He won two WSOP bracelets in his career: 1974's Deuce to Seven Draw event and the 1975 Main Event. He passed away on the 23rd of June 1995.

Eric Drache is mostly known for his contribution to poker as a poker manager/cardroom manager even though he is a pretty successful seven-card stud player. He finished on 2nd place three times in WSOP stud events: 1973, 1981 and 2009. According to wikipedia, Drache invented satellite tournaments and ante structures among other things.

poker hall of fame- lol that sound odd, i wonder what is the criteria to be included in such "hall of fame"- should you just be a dude with minimum 50 years of poker career under your belt, or should you be high stakes player, how about success- should you just have some wins, or your overall winnings should be counted? tough one

Before the 2009 World Series of Poker, then-WSOP Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack announced that the process for becoming a member into the Poker Hall of Fame would undergo a slight modification. Starting in 2009, the Poker Hall of Fame started accepting nominations from the public. This move was intended to increase interest in the Hall. Almost immediately after this decision was announced, Party Poker started an online campaign to get its representative and World Poker Tour commentator Mike Sexton elected to the Hall.[6][7][8] Other poker sites, namely PokerStars' Tom McEvoy, followed suit by pushing their own poker professionals.[9] The requirements for the Poker Hall of Fame are as follows:

A gambler must have played poker against acknowledged top competition,
Played for high stakes,
Played consistently well, gained the respect of peers,
And stood the test of time.
Or, for non-players, contributed to the overall growth and success of the game of poker, with indelible positive and lasting results.[3][10]

In 2009, 23-year-old online poker professional Tom Dwan was a finalist for the Poker Hall of Fame because of public balloting. As a result, a new age requirement was added in 2011. This rule, known as the "Chip Reese Rule", established a minimum age of 40 to be inducted into the Hall. This new requirement eliminated some players who were regular nominees over the previous years, such as Phil Ivey (35) and Daniel Negreanu (36).[11]

That's right pochui, i think you should have over than 50 years and played a lot of poker... and i think you should win few bracelets ... i think Phill Hellmuth will be able at 50 years Smile)

The concept is pretty interesting but again the conditions to take part are not pretty clear but it seems it must be a good poker carreer and also some poker inovations...

If this will be something appreciated i think the guy that invented rush also should get here Big Smile

I think there are exceptions, But any body who get's inducted to a hall a fame in sport's usually they have won some kinda championship, so in my opinion the best poker players are the one's with title's under there belt, WSOP and so on....theses are the one's that should have first dibbs at the poker hall of fame in my own opinion. Blink

One have two accomplish the most part of a list of criteria, pochui, it's not only winning a lot. It includes factors like helping spreading the good name of poker world wide, as other stuff. Once there was news here at BRM that included all the list, i remember seeing that about a year ago, i guess. I don't know any of these two names, but i am sure they must have done a great work in terms of poker.
