Emotional Ending of WPT Malta

It ended up being Yorane Kerignard and Jacskon Genovesi, the two chip leaders when the final table begun, who battled it out for the WPT Malta title and the top prize of $182,292. The heads-up started after four-hours of three way action that ended with Genovesi eliminating WPT Champions Club member Alessio Isaia in 3rd place.

Genovesi had the chip lead and most people expected him take down the whole thing because he had been in the lead for 3 successive days. Kerignard started the heads-up by taking down a big pot, which evened out the score a bit. Then it didn't take long Kerignard took down another big pot and held a two-to-one chip lead over Jackson Genovesi. Shortly after Genovesi had taken the lead, the final hand was played...

Genoversi opened up the pot with a 125,00 bet, and then ended up calling a 260,00 three-bet from Kerignard. The flop came down TClub4Diamond2Spade and Kerignard betted 210,000. A few moments later, Genovesi announced that he was all-in for his remaining 1,200,000. Kerignard took off his sunglasses, checked his cards and smiled at Genovesi. He counted the chips that was required to make the call and quickly found out that he would have about 1,600,000 left if he made the call. After almost two minutes of thinking he made the call.

"I think I got him, "said Genovesi before showing THeart9Heart. Kerignard turned over ASpade3Club.

"Just blank it out...I don't care what you do just blank it out," said Genovesi.

The dealer burned a card and put out the 3Spade on the turn. Both players were standing up when the dealer was preparing to show the final card. Genovesi couldn't believe his eyes when the ADiamond landed on the river. His dreams of a WPT title had been crushed.

Genovesi was crying, Kerignard was crying and the crowd were crying. It was like an emotional scene taken from a Hollywood movie. Kerignard was the WPT Malta Champion and received the first place prize of $182,292! Genovesi received $108,024 for his second place finish, but it took some time before he could smile.

Final table results:
1) Yorane Kerignard, $182 292
2) Jackson Genovesi, $108 024
3) Alessio Isaia, $68 981
4) Hui Chen Kuo, $51 409
5) Zeljko Krizan, $38 425
6) Sampo Ryynanen, $30 556

Congratulations to the winner of this edition of WPT! The action was really good on this event and in general was a big hit if you ask me Smile

After reading what the last hand was it looked pretty similar to the hands that we see online everyday...

What a way to loose a tourney, that sure must have been sad for Genovesi, after leading a tourney for so long til the final heads up. I just don't understand why was Kerignard also crying, if he had just won it. Ok, it must have been a very emotional moment, just like the news title says, and crying is also a nice way to show happiness, but not many people use it. So, ananlysing the last hand: four 5's, three 3's, three Aces, against three 9's and two 10's, in terms of outs that would give each one the victory. Although it was in a very strange way (really a movie scene, having the 3 first, telling something bad can happen, and the Ace in the end, showing it really happened the worst), he had more outs than is oponent, and he was already leading the tourney, fair enough!

Oh wow.

what a sickener lol Just when you need her lady luck walks off into the distance, casually smoking a cigarette that fills your nostrils with the smell of defeat from afar.

People call that an internet hand but goes to show it happens in real life too, there's always things like that happening, that's why poker is addictive, it's unpredictable, like riding a mustang.
