The televised final table at the World Poker Tour Montreal Main Event concluded yesterday with Derrick Rosenbarger as the champion! Rosenbarger, from Clovis, New Mexico, began the final table in 5th place and was well behind chip leader Sylvain Siebert (8.4m), Serge Cantin (6.9m) and Mukul Pahuja (5.9m).
However, the poker gods treated him very well and he made it to heads-up against the experienced poker pro Mukul Pahuja after several hours of play. Pahuja was way out in front with 17.6 million against Rosenbarger with 8.2 million. Rosenbarger managed to double up almost straight away, and then he doubled up again to overtake the lead - only 25 hands into the heads-up match! Even though Pahuja managed to double up on Hand 129, Rosenbarger kept the lead until the final hand...
Hand 152:
Rosenbarger bet 600k preflop and Pahuja shoved his remaining 6.9 million. Rosenbarger quickly called and turned over two queens. Pahuja showed A4. The board ran out 96342 and Rosenbarger was crowned the newest member of the WPT Champions Club and received a first prize of $500,824!
