On Monday, the first day of the WPT Venice Main Event kicked off at the the oldest casino in the world: Casinò di Venezia (opened in 1638). Only 65-players signed up for the first day, but luckily many of them were well-known faces from around the world including Matt Salsberg, Daniel Cates, Kara Scott, Mike Sexton, Gaelle Bumann and Marvin Rettenmaier.

After 8 levels of play, the first day concluded with 32 players and poker amateur Stephen Behm had the largest stack (188,000). Two-time WPT champ Marvin Rettenmaier (picture) is ranked second with 115,000 chips, and WPT commentator and poker ambassador Mike Sexton is not far behind with 99,900 chips.

We will be back with another update tomorrow! Stay tuned!

For those of you that don't know; WPT Venice is held in the world oldest casino in the world — Casino di Venezia in Ca’ Vendramin Calergi. I would sure love to go and play there at leas once. Not to mention the beautiful city of Venice is is worth while being there Smile

@lukasb, the national tourney has a 1500+150 euro buyin, and it's re-entry, and the GP tourney has double that buyin.

So many well known names and such a small field and still the leader after the end of Day 1 is a complete stranger. What can be better news for everyone playing online to keep doing it believing one day it can be them on the place of Stephen Behm? I need to give a big shake to my MTT strategy, or perhaps i just need to put it more in practice, but i sure would like to be on his place one day. Lets just see where will he be tomorrow...

Adverse weather conditions conspired to keep many players away from the latest WPT event in Venice.
However, despite many players being sidelined by the snow, 65 players still managed to make it to Casino di Venezia for Day 1A of the €3,300 Main Event.

I guess many already visited Venice so there was no attraction there for them lol

Considering that not so many players registered probably the prize pool is not really that big either.

I would suggest you go to Venice in the next few years before the arctic ice caps totally melt and flood the whole place out...

I saw something about that place recently on TV. Certainly would be a great place to visit!

Only 65 entrants? The winnings wouldn't even pay for the trip and accomodations....

It is too expensive for me.
