Sheraz Nasir was crowned the first WPT Champion of Season XIV last night. Nasir, who brought the second biggest stack to the final table, defeated Lu Zhang (had the chance of becoming the first-ever female winner in an open WPT event) heads-up to lay hands on the title, CAD $255,408 in prize money, a seat into the WPT Championship, a WPT Champions trophy and a Playground Poker Club Champions Belt.

The first stop on the new season attracted 370 entries to come to Montreal and play the CAD $3,500 buy-in Main Event, which generated a prize pool of almost CAD $1 million; and it took five days of play for total field to be become a final table of six. Here are the final table results:

Many congratulations to Sheraz Nasir on winning this event and the first prize of over a quarter of a million. Lu Zhang must be disappointed at not winning but can look back with a lot of pride on her tournament

I do not know anything about this guy Nasir but he has had a few wins before though not as high as the quarter million he won on this one but congratz.I would have liked to see a woman manage to win this and have to say that I am surprised that a woman has never won an open WPT event.

too bad for Lu Zhang, she was so close to make history but indeed still left this tournament with a nice amount of Canadian dollars Smile

Lu Zhang - now that is an unmistakably canadian sounding name if I guess it right. If I imagine her picture I see a Paul Bunyan type character holding two cards under a ton of snow near a logjam in the right side of the frozen river.
