On August 5 at around 11 a.m., a peculiar incident got a man shot by Las Vegas cops just outside a church filled with children. The man was identified to be 25-year-old Jason Funke, from Minnetonka, Minnesota, who happens to be the 490th finisher in the 2017 World Series of Poker Main Event that just concluded last month.
Funke was seen completely naked, sitting and lounging outside the Life Springs Christian Church, holding a handgun. At that time, there were children inside the church's school who were having their tutorial lessons. When the cops arrived in response to an emergency services call to reports of a man with a gun, a standoff arose, with Funke at first obeying the police, dropping his weapon, and walking away from the weapon towards where the cops are. However, he quickly decided to turn back around and ran, prompting one of the cops to immobilize him, and so he was shot in the shoulder. He fell to the ground and was taken into custody afterwards.
Upon investigation, Funke was actually known to the church, and they say he has previously donated money to the church. Funke apparently told a church employee (before the cops arrived) that he was feeling somewhat suicidal. The church staff member was also told that Funke had apparently been using LSD, marijuana and drinking alcohol. It seemed like he was meditating right before the unfortunate incident.
Jason Funke is actually a poker player by profession. He has almost $100K in lifetime tournament earnings garnered since early 2013. This summer at the 2017 WSOP, he had cashed out $24,867 in the $10,000 buy-in Main Event, finishing at number 490, and this was his second-biggest win in his poker career.
According to the Las Vegas Review Journal article, "Funke was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on one count each of possession of a dangerous weapon at a school or child care property, and indecent exposure. Jail records show he is no longer in custody."
Police have reported that Funke had a past history of depression.
Funke is actually not the only poker player who went deep in this year's WSOP main event and also got in serious trouble with the police. The 70th placer Paul Senat who won $101,000, was temporarily freed on bail for a manslaughter charge in Florida when he participated at poker's biggest event of the year.
This guy must have been drugged out of his mind to do this. It must have been pretty terrifying for the people witnessing this and i am glad that no one else was hurt
Yes it is funny and and also sad to see what drugs do to people, they can't see the situation right and do some stupid things, then yheynare sorry but sometimes it is too late for sorry and you can be in big trouble for all your life, really no one should use drugs yoo dangerous
So, this guy finished in 490th place and cashed nearly $25,000 in this year's WSOP main event? What did he spend his money on? On gambling, booze, drugs, and wild women? Had he been playing high stakes strip poker in an underground casino somewhere in Las Vegas prior to his shameful arrest for indecent exposure?
So young and already having the bad life habits, I would give a lot to have his age and have his cash bank balance and energy to try to build something solid to have a better life later... what a shame.
lsd marijuana and alcohol is a great combination me ponders, though there is really no need to flash your anus in public especially holding a gun in you hand... yeah they don't call las vegas the sin city for nothing do they...

The drugs along with the booze and his problems were enough to get him there. The good thing is that he got shot on the shoulder only. And besides he is in big trouble now, he has a difficult road ahead of him.
Drugs alcohol and ultimately insane behavior .... whatever you were famous and popular person you need to observe what that limits .... this person clearly crossed the border of the reasonable and eventually received a punishment for it .... do not be so
what to say about this kind of people!you have money to enjoy in life,you just played at WSOP and you didnt lost your buy in,but still its not enough and you have to use lot of drug!its good that he didnt do anything to other people,especially to this children!
That is by far one of the most weird things I have ever seen! Not only do you get cctv from a nearby building, but also the body cam of the cop........... I'm always a little surprised by the crazy behaviour of poker players...it's like it's an affliction at times. I just kinda wonder where the dog caught hold of once the guy had been downed by the cop?
doesnt surprise me after reading that guy took LSD. some people think they can fly like birds on that drug. he obviously had a horror trip lol. i was watching a documentary about humans used as guinea pigs in the millitary taking lsd. back the days they didnt know about the right dosage... just too funny to see grown men becoming complete fools
Yes i toi think that drugs can make you a complete fool, like some people on this forum say, they do trouble to you brain and sometimes only one time you use drugs can be very bad amd you feel this effect for all of your life. Of course not all drugs are so bad.
It wasnt the first time they used military personnel to do experiments. And i bet it won be the last one. Its like the free resource of guineas for some countries. Put them on the test and whatever it comes. They are "serving" their country at the end according to the ones using them. right?
Hello my friends and fellow mobsters Well that was the way to put the WSOP pressure out of his system getting naked taking a walk ,got shot and at last get arrested and prior to all that get your face stuff with a mix of drugs and booze Soon they will be saying that beeing a poker player can harm your health
Mobsters, take a lesson from this. When people ask "can I turn pro and quit my job?", this is what happens. If you're not 100% certain that you can be competitive, don't be delusional and make poker the sum of your hopes and dreams for the future. Gambling attracts the mentally ill, we all know this.

well i think this dude is just living a great lifestyle- drugs, alcohol, gambling and women... oh man that's what i call heaven if by drugs we mean marijuana only and nothing harder... you know he is kinda lucky to be shot only in shoulder and not balls or brainless head

His lifestyle will continue it will be good or bad that's not the problem. The problem is with these drugs people or drunk which become dangerous. The law should be changed and punishments should be increased because these cases endanger normal people to be rare.
Of course the behavior of this person can be understood .... spoiled by life ... a lot of money, drugs, alcohol .... now he will have time to think about his future life .... maybe this unpleasant episode will serve him a lesson and he will change for the better side? .... maybe so
Sheer stupidity. I have done some crazy stuff when I was in my 20s and early 30s. But I have never done anything remotely close to this. Everyone is entitled to their own stupidity. But please just keep it to themselves. It is a relief to know that no one else besides himself was injured in the incident.
