Portuguese Filipe Oliveira emerged as the top winner of partypoker's 2018 Caribbean Poker Party $10M guaranteed $5,300 buy-in NLHE event.
The event attracted a player field of 1,815 entries which means that the organizer needed to add about $925,000 as an overlay, despite the last-minute surge of entrants (they needed at least 2,000 entries to reach the guarantee; rake not counted).
Oliveira happily took home a huge $1.5 million payout as the champ of this event, tremendously surpassing his previous career highest live tourney score of just $100,000+.
He entered the final day of the event with a nice stack in 5th chip position along with 10 other players remaining. However, as the day went on at the final table he slowly spiraled down the leaderboard after he lost many big pots. Just when he only had 3.5 big blinds during six-handed play, he managed to eventually rise back up in the group and take the lead.
On the final hand, he was up against Craig Mason.
Oliveira had A-9 of hearts
Mason had K-9 offsuit
The board ran Q-9-2-J-4, thus declaring Oliveira as the top winner of the event and sending Mason to the rail as runner-up.
This rewarding event produced three happy millionaires!
