Doyle Brunson gets Strange Call from Detective about Owing Money at Poker Room

Legendary poker pro Doyle Brunson received a strange call from a detective at 9pm on December 4th, saying something about owing a person money at the Aria Casino's poker room and if he doesn't pay, then he would get killed. Detective said Texas Dolly's name was on that person's list. Is this a scam or is it a warning of real danger? Let's find out...

Over a hundred of Doyle's followers commented on his tweet, and Brunson replied in one of them that he found out the detective was for real.

At first, Brunson was naturally skeptical about the call since he knows he doesn't frequently play at the Aria poker rooms (Doyle Brunson is a regular poker player in the renowned Bobby's Room at the Bellagio), and he's positive he doesn't owe poker money to anyone. Also, who calls at 9pm, asking a person to let a stranger come inside his house?

When the two-time WSOP Main Event champ finally was able to confirm that the call was from a real detective, he called him back as he felt he did not initially respond to him nicely.

Someone asked Brunson if he also called Aria to verify this and he said:

This does sound like something out of a film but i would be very worried. I thought it was a scam when i first read it but he has checked everybody out and they are 100% genuine. I hope it all works out well for Doyle, keep us updated

Well he has the name of the detective. Instead of accepting him in his house,
he could easily go to the police station, to check out if the whole story is true,
and then follow up from there.
Ans again why the need to post that online in the first place?

I agree, seems strange to post this online? Is he doing as he is publically protecting himself and others from such a scam. My first port of call, would be the police station, then make a public statement in front of the police station, or better still stand there and get my lawyer to make the statement.

I like Doyle, and hope he takes this sort of thing away from the game? Is the poker room in question fed up of him winning, more than likely.

Lastly, if I was Doyle, never go to that room again, and persuade my friends within the game to use another room too. There is more than one way to skin a cat.

Good luck Doyle and see you on the felt soon. Smile

I have the impression that this is an extortion of money.
I do not think it's a mistake, since the detective is real and someone made a bad joke, to scare Doyle Brunson and to make him to pay that money.
These people who scares octogeners should be hospitalized to the mental institution.

some kind of detective story really ... of course, such calls get a little scared ... but it can be usually a practical joke ... just a joke ... but this is some kind of cruel joke ... let's see what happens next. ... I hope that Doyle Brunson will be all right

I heard weirder stories from others about owing money to someone who could not get pleased easier altough none of them contained Doyle as a participant in it... Big Smile What more concerning that they treat this as a terrorist act and not some lunatic's ravings.

You can not joke with the lives of men, threatening them with death and saying you owe them money. Since you threatened a person with death, this can be interpreted as a terrorist act.
These threats must not exist, because many will do the same.
A hard law will prevent many persons from threatening to death by phone.
