As of this writing, Phil Ivey is the chip leader amongst the remaining 38 players going into Day 3 out of 5 in Event #58: $50,000 Poker Players Championship at this year's World Series of Poker.

Even though the number of players who participated in this event had been the smallest turnout in the history of the $50,000 Poker Players Championship, its record-low attendance wasn't much of a big deal mainly because there were two big stars that entered: Phil Ivey and Tom Dwan.
Phil Ivey was able to rise up the ranks late in the day, and stayed on top to lead the remaining 38 players when the second day ended.
At the moment, the one who walks away the winner is set to take home $1,099,311, but it is still too early to finalize the top prizes. Only twelve lucky players will go home with the money and there's a possibility that Day 3 would bring the tournament close to the bubble, but not enough into the money.
Tom Dwan has also participated in this event, and both he and Ivey are definitely a sight for sore eyes when they were seen amongst the PPC field, considering they've been spending most of their time playing the game in Asian territories rather than in US states within the past few years. Ivey came back to the WSOP scene last year, but this will be Dwan's first time to come back again (he hasn't cashed at the WSOP for 8 years now). The degen short deck pro appeared and joined at the late registration buzzer; however, his time at the event was cut short as he busted in the second day's final level.
Trailing behind Ivey are two former PPC champs: John Hennigan and Matthew Ashton.
John "World" Hennigan is second in chips next to Ivey in this event with 1,209,000. Hennigan won this same event back in 2014 for $1,517,767. The 48-year-old American pro has recently won his 6th WSOP bracelet by defeating Daniel Negreanu in Event #41: $10,000 Seven Card Stud Championship ($245,451).
Matthew Ashton, who took down the PPC event in 2013, currently sits in 7th place with 911,000 in chips.
With currently 1,254,000 chips in Ivey's bag, the 10-time bracelet winner is a hot candidate to win his fourth Poker Players Championship cash.
Day 3 of the $50K Poker Players Championship will begin on June 26, Wednesday, at 2pm local time, with action resuming with 12,000/24,000 limits.
