Mark 12:41-44 41And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much.
42And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing.
43And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:
44For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.

Hopefully this is not the case and the church will benefit from it. One can certainly wonder what happens with collection and what % the pastors take is. Recently we did a complete tear off and restucco (135k Job) of a pastors home on Lake Minnetonka in Minnesota which happens to be a very, very wealthy subburb of Minneapolis. This 8400 SQ FT home sat on 2.5 acres and featured 9 bedrooms, 11 baths, 6 fireplaces. It also had its own tennis courts (2), 1/2 olympic sized swimming pool, separate guess home or maids quarters, a 3 and 2 car garage. He probably has more money in the landscaping alone on his property than what my home is worth.

That guy probably killed someone and decided to buy forgiveness.. But instead of forgiveness he probably bought new car for pastors son
|
Fakiry | 06/04/2011 14:33:01 GMT |
Now they only have to know if the person who gave the ticket gave it before or after knowing it was a ticket with such huge prize. I guess that, if it was before, there is only one statement in that person's head: "For god's sake!"

something like that happened here last week in ireland,a man went in to tesco (big supermarket chain) and asked for a 6euro lottery ticket, the checkout girl printed a 9euro ticket by mistake and the man refused it demanding his 6euro ticket well the girl gave him his 6euro ticket and taped the 9euro ticket to the side of the till, the 9euro ticket ended up winning 500,000 thousand euro in the lottery, now tesco is laying claim to the ticket but the girl is sueing tesco claiming she meant to pay for the ticket herself....hope she wins...this is a true story

This is really quite special, it's nice to see that there is still some very kind and generous people out there. I'm sure that money will help the church greatly and the community itself. Really nice to read
I do however find it a bit strange that he/she didn't even want to maybe have a holiday or something just to celebrate. I mean...a donation of around $20,000 would have still been amazing.

Stalando | 11/04/2011 11:21:54 GMT |
so many people are shooting this person down for doing a generous thing and helping others, bring religion into it is just ignorant of you, its called being compassionate..
|
eorituz | 11/04/2011 12:34:19 GMT |
wow^^ I wold never do sth. like this, I'm the born capitalist I would use it for my poker Bankroll
|
jessthehuman | 11/04/2011 13:03:47 GMT |
I'm all for charity. But as far as I'm concerned the church is a corporation and giving it to the church is a bad plan. Give it to a worth while charity if ya gonna give it away.
I also love the irony; the church is anti-gambling.
|
thewizard213 | 11/04/2011 21:07:49 GMT |
Madness, utter madness. I could think of better places to give 30k to, certainly not a church.
Religion, one of the biggest causes of wars across the world, the suffering it causes. Hope the person who donated it to a church goes to hell!!!!
|
theratcat | 11/04/2011 21:45:32 GMT |
LOL what if the person was just trying to be sarcastic and also had a losing ticket and put the winning one in by accident.
|
noonlion | 25/07/2012 12:39:52 GMT |
wow what a waste....
|
jessthehuman | 25/07/2012 13:11:30 GMT |
Wow - What an incredible waste. Don't get me wrong - I think donating a large win like that is an awesome thing to do. But to the Church? One of the richest "companies" in the world - with all kinds of disgusting practices. Whilst I acknowledge the church does do some good (even though it's often tainted - like support groups for addicts etc that ultimately push people into a religious mindset) - Ultimately they're a negative influence on the world when you weigh up all the pros and cons.
There's just soooo many GOOD causes who could use $30K. What a shame / waste.
|
teddybears73 | 25/07/2012 20:53:54 GMT |
maybe it was done by mistake, maybe the guy/woman thought it was a dollar bill, i'd give it to charity myself.
|
damosk | 25/07/2012 22:05:49 GMT |
Maybe this is a good example of a random act of kindness...maybe the ticket winner was so overcome with not needing the money as he thought it would change his life for the worse that he saw the only way out was to give it away to a good cause...or in this case...his local church!!
